Hi, so I got caught by a speed camera van last night on victoria quay, heading for the N4. I was doing about 58kph at around half ten at night. Saw the flash, bit of a shock, first time..

Anyways, I've called a few garda stations to find out the exact speed limit there. Some say 30kph, some say 50kph, Store st don't answer.

Can anyone tell me who is 100% certain please? Also if it is 30kph, is that more serious than a 2 penalty point fine? Because, in that case I'd be doing 28kph over the speed limit. However, I don't really believe it's 30.

    It's not listed as a 30kph zone.

    http://www.dublincity.ie/ROADSANDTRAFFIC/ROADSAFETY/Pages/SpeedLimits.aspx#30

    So, it's a 50 kph one. At 58 kph, it's 2 points and a €60 fine.

I was googling for this. I am in court on Tuesday for a fine which I tried to pay but was not on the system. I am being fined for doing 38kph on Wellington quay. I spoke to my dad who works delivering in that area and he had been told that there are issues with whether or not it is actually legally 30. I guess I just have to go and see, if anyone has proof of it being 50 though Id be over the moon.

If you look at the post before yours, I think you'll have to pay up.

It says it there but not on their list of streets for 30. I called and they said it was 30 but just wanted to be 100% since it was and wasnt on their lists. I am prepared to pay up, I did attempt to pay and when i couldnt I stressed a bit, it was only that I mentioned to my dad that I would be mortified in court he said he heard of issues with the speed so to check it out and make sure that it is definitely 30.

Just to let you guys know how I got on...

Well in we went and were surprised to see people getting fines up to €800, one person who did not turn up got 750 and 12 days. It was a bit of a joke, been in there before for a double fine error by a gard and the judge that day was great well this time he this fella was unreal, at one stage screamed at my husband for talking when it was a garda sitting behind us who was yapping, unreal.

I pleaded guilty, was asked why I was speeding and said that as far as I was aware the limit had schanged at the quay I was on, I was told I should be well aware of the 30 limit due to publicity which I said I was but it was unclear as to which parts of the quays were this speed and a few yards on I would have been in the 50 zone. Anyway I was asked why I didnt pay how many dependants I had, earnings etc and was then convicted of speeding with a €200 fine and 3 mths to pay. Mine was joint with another girl there the most leniant handed out on the day.

Not a nice experience I have to say and will definitely try not to speed or at least pay a fine on time from here on in, only missed the fine by one day.

I got caught there last year in similar circumstances. It's a 50k zone. I was doing 56K. It was my first 2 point penalty offence as well. Just have to man up and take it on the chin and be more aware of the limits in different zones.
