Social Welfare/PPS Card

Not sure if this is the right forum but I lost my PPS card the other day. I don't particularly need it at the moment but may in the future. Should I wait til I need it to apply or would they need to know now that it's missing? How do I get a replacement?

I lost mine a few months ago. I just went into the social welfare office and explained. They ordered a new one and it was posted to my address a few days later.
