Ok so I got a replacement set of switches off one of the lads on Almera owners club, he assures me that it was working perfectly before posting to me. Fuses all seem fine. nothing happens when I press the switch for it, can anyone help, I checked the connections on the back window and they seem fine. not sure what to do now.

I was testing the switch again today and I noticed that when I press the switch the engine sounds like it goes under load, the revs drop a bit and when I press the switch again the load comes off and the revs return to normal. This happens with both the old and replacement unit. The light still doesn't come on in either one to let you know if it's on or off. Hope that if there is frost tomorrow morning that I can check if it's working, just not lighting up.

Any ideas as why this would be happening and how to fix it?

I need to get this sorted as the NCT is coming up soon.

The rear demister is not an NCT item as far as I know. The fact that the revs drop is an indication of the actual demister itself is working. There might be a wire broken going into a multiplug. If you can remove the bulb to check if it works.I dont know the setup with these cars.
