espresso maker too much steam

    I have this espresso maker:

    It was giving me problems lately where the boiled water was not getting through to the filter part.

    I de-scaled it successfully, and now boiled water is making it through to the filter section and water is filling the carafe.

    But there is a hell of a lot of steam coming out of any gap it can find. It sounds like it might explode. I have to open the steam tube to relieve the pressure, which should be closed for espresso.
    Has my coffee maker had it? :(
