in the amrket for a new pair, as by Etnocs that seems about 5years old are now starting to fall apart, however never let in a drop of water ever, and I never have treated them (expect badly!!)

Several pairs of Footjoy AQL : leak eventually but give a reasonable life of being fully waterproof.
Better I found were the HiTec CDT Power (??) - the ones Harrington used to wear. A bit heavy maybe but waterproof for ever.

Had several midrange HiTec and more recently Adidas which were supposed to by waterproof but werent - right from the off. Still like the Adidas for light comfort on a dry summer day though.

Further back have also had the cheaper FJ (Greenjoy), and the cheaper Hitec. They are waterproof. But synthetic - so you will probably sweat and be wet even when it isnt raining! Not worth it.

So AQL or Dryjoy should satisfy at good value, or Ecco with Goretex if you have the cash. AQL the best bang per buck I think, and I prefer to have a few pairs to rotate rather than one pair of the pricyer models.

I have a pair of Etonic's. They have a moulded Goodyear sole, no spikes. Going into their 5th winter and still mo leak. Goretex is the way.

I have DryJoys and find them very good. Previously had a couple of pairs of Aqualites and they weren't bad but I wouldn't say they were fully waterproof... sometimes socks might get a little damp but only very slightly. No issue with the DryJoys.
Looking at onlinegolf.co.uk, 2009 DryJoys are £90 (limited sizes), AQL are £65 and the more premium models are around £130 - Ecco New classic gtx, Footjoy Icon etc.
In my opinion I'd say that the £90 was enough to spend and the better performance over the AQL represents decent value.
Aqualites are grand summer shoes and you could take the pressure off your 'good' pair by using a second, cheaper pair when it's not monsoon season and make the dearer ones last a bit longer...

I always used to have the AQL's.
Then one year changed to ECCO GTX. Heavy shoe and outrageously expensive, but I said what the hell, they'll last for years!! Wrong. Lasted no longer than any AQL pair I ever owned. Waste of money.
Towards end of last year bought the HiTec CDT Power. Leaked badly after 3 or 4 wears. Brought them back and got the trusty AQL's again. No problems. Very light. Very comfortable. Very reasonably priced. Overall a great shoe IMO. You cannot go wrong with them.
