Hello to all who read this entry!

This is a news alert advert.
    Main issue!
My Bicycle was Stolen in the Dublin city centre!

It is a Road bicycle, Dawes Giro 200 model 2009
metalic silver / grey with Black GIRO 200 motif branding on frame.

I am the bearer of my own bad news!

    This day, Saturday 22nd.
I parked up and locked my bicycle at the under pass near Connelly station, just at the Luas terminal. At the area designated for parking and locking bicycles.

    Time was approx; 2.45pm

I arrived back approx 3.15pm. The bicycle was gone, disappeared, and presumably stolen!

The bicycle was locked up with a centurion bicyle U lock!
All that remained was a very twisted remains of the U shaped locking bar of the lock!!
How ever committed this crime had odviously used a crowbar or some out heavy breaker tool of some kind.

This is supposedly the second bicycle stolen at Connelly station in the last 24 hours. this notified by cusotmer service at the station.

I have reported the bicycle stolen at Store street Garda Station.
The matter have now being taken in to the Garda's investigations.

    Description:
    Dawes Giro 200 model 2009
metalic silver / grey with Black GIRO 200 motif branding on frame.

check 2009 manual for visual description.

To all who may read this notice:

This is a notice : to put the word out as much!

any distuinguishing features just in case someone does spot it somewhere? The Giro 200's are pretty common around Dublin.
Oh, and sorry for your loss.

    Distinguishing Features:

The Dawes bike was a 2009 model,
The frame is noticably different to the 2010 models.
How the tubing of the frame is built!
The brand name motif across the frame:
Instead of Dawes printed it states GIRO in large black letters:

My bicycle that was stolen was reported on saturday:
The frame may have been damaged during the theft

IN general that lock up area at the connelly station,
well let's just say questionable. and annoying
    Following the report:
Again I just parked and locked up bicycle for approx 30 mins.

The idea I think here, it was odviously meditated theft,
the bicycle thiefs are preying on possible targets,
They must have been just waiting around the locality
    of the station.
And have a tool bag or something, packing the theft tools also:
eg: crow bar / chain cutters, or whatever theft tools!

The centurion lock I had was twisted like a paper clip!
    Unbelievable!

Beware lockin your bicycle in the city.

The damage may have been done by a bottlejack.

    ZMJ.jpg

These are small hydraulic jacks which can exert massive force on the bars of a ulock. The best way to prevent their use is to have as little space in the ulock as possible. This way they can't fit the jack in. So either use a small ulock, or put the ulock in an awkward location, down by the bottom bracket.

Or buy a big chain and a cylindrical anti hammer lock. such as 7425.jpg

    Chain?

You can easily beat even a heavy duty chain with a small hacksaw in about 20 seconds.

What is a Cenurion U-lock? I did a quick google, but the references were all to Centurion bikes.

Is there not CCTV footage around the station?

Hope you get your bike back.

too many bikes being stolen these days and little and security mechanisms are falling behind. There is always some tool to break them.

Hopefully someone will spot it in an advert online or on the newspapers. Keep an eye out on them sites and hopefully it will turn up on there.

The U lock I had the dawes Giro 200 locked with was a Oxford sentinel.
    Ref: U lock info below.

    http://www.bikeoutlet.co.uk/products/Oxford_Sentinel_D_Lock_U_Lock-242-23.html

There is an anti theft insurance claus linked to these Oxford locks.
Undoubtably there's red tape involed with insurance.

Anybody with one of these Oxford sentinel locks take notice.
Yes they can be broken. I know from experience.

I head an Oxford Sentinel before, but I used it with two other D-locks.

It's not a good lock. Or at least it wasn't a good lock back then. It used a cylindrical key, which meant it could be opened with a bic pen.
