If i put my car in for the test say 3 months before it was due and then if a "problem"/non-safety item, was found with the car will i have to fix it immediately or can i still use my car for the 3 months on the original NCT Cert.

Good question! Don't know the answer, though. Ring them, and post back here.

One thing - if you don't go back within one month, you'll have to pay the full fee again (rather than free if it's just a visual, or €28 for a re-test).

You probably shouldnt drive it if it's something serious, but I cant really see a problem why you couldnt drive it otherwise. Considering they let failed cars drive away.
