    Hi guys,

So I tried to move my car today but the bloody handbrake is stuck. I had started it over the cold weather so I thought all was fine. I know it's a long shot but if anyone could either fix it for me or advise me on what to do. It's my first car & I am only learning to drive.. Really wanted to get some practice driving in this weekend :(

You need to rock the car back and forth. Drive forward then backward. It will eventually unstick.

Put the car in gear, gently let the clutch out so that the car starts to strain as it tries to move forward. You don't need to let the clutch off completely, it should be still partially pressed with your foot. Let the car strain gently for a second, press the clutch to the floor, reverse gear and do the same again. The brakes will release they are just temporarily stuck from being engaged for so long.

Yer goin nowhere tonights, leave the car in gear and put the handbrake down, it should thaw tomorrow.

don't engage the handbrake at night until this frosty weather passes, just leave the car in gear, it'll go nowhere, put a brick in front of one of yer wheels if yer worried.

happened to me during Christmas, I was lucky an was able to free it by pouring boiling water in through the rear wheel spokes.

This happened to me as well, but it wasn't frozen, the brake shoes had seized. Get a hammer and give the rear brake drums a good bang on either wheel. Then rock the car back and forth again. This freed it for me; but it did sieze again a few times over the next few days so I had to get it to a mechanic. (Though a few bangs with a hammer freed it every time)

It's not the full solution, but it'll get you moving again.
