Anyone see the first episode of this? I really enjoyed it. I actually lived in Portland for almost 10 years and it's so true to form.
Some stuff was a bit meh, but the majority was very good.

Watched it twice today - once out of curiousity and the second with the Mrs to see what she thought.

It's very funny, as much as in the targets of their humour, as well as the writing. First in a series of six, AFAIK. I'll be watching the rest.

Another vote of confidence from me, the opening credits are pretty good....set to 80's music, musical opening scene, it's very weird and whacky....hard to describe.

It's like a sketch show, i'm not sure it's my kinda show per se but it has something.

This will give you an idea:

The part where your man was on a constant technology loop was hilarious.

    Puffington ?

Chicken scene - great idea, but too long
    Tech nerd - great
    Bookshop - so-so
Hide & seek - weakest scene

Portland is where young people go to retire:D a bit like Galway.

Meh.. had good ideas, but a lot of poor stretched out scenes and lacklustre writing.

Jason Sudeikis is always great though.

Oh God, I was literally about to post the same thing!

This looks good, was actually considering Portland for my j1 last year. One of the reasons I wanted to go was that it seems a bit off-beat. The problem was telling people about it only for them to go "...where?".
    Will give this a look!

Uh...wow!....IFC has renewed the show for a second season, no ratings info exists (that i've seen), plus i stopped at the pilot...anyone keeping up?

    http://www.deadline.com/2011/02/ifc-renews-portlandia-for-second-season/

Three episodes into original, short-based comedy series Portlandia, IFC has renewed for a second season. The network has picked up 10 half-hour episodes of the series created, written by and starring Fred Armisen (SNL) and Portland-native Carrie Brownstein for a January 2012 premiere. IFC only released cumed audience for the first 3 episodes: 1.1 million total viewers, more than 700,000 adults 18-49. Portlandia, based on web series ThunderAnt, which Armisen and Brownstein produced together, is shot entirely on location in Portland and is directed, co-created and co-written by Jonathan Krisel. It is executive produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Broadway Video.

I've been watching; some really strong sketches and some pretty poor ones. In all it makes Portland out to be slightly weirder than it really is, but it's pretty accurate.

    Returns on Wednesday I believe.

I.F.C seem very happy with it, it attracted 1.3 million viewers on premiere night.

I've only watched the first season so far, and while some of the sketches were a bit hit and miss, it's a nice change to watch American comedy in a format other than sitcoms. I've never been much of a fan of Fred Armisen from SNL, but this show has converted me! Looking forward to season two.

i was in stitches when the restaurant scene came on, would you like to double down your meal? Yeah sure whats that, we give you double the meal and charge you for it.
Would you like to lobsterise your meal? Sure whats that, we just trow a lobster on top of it.
Would you like to spike your meal? We trow Jack Daniels over it:D

Absolutely love this show. Season 1 EP 5 was a bit of a let down but I can let a show off with one bad episode a year. Surprised at the big cameos they can get for such a small show.

IFC has given a two-season renewal, taking the show through its seventh season.
Portlandia at present is in its fifth season on IFC. The renewal calls for 10 half-hour episodes in both seasons six and seven
