    Hi

I want to do some film studies with my first year students.

They are a good class, but I'm not really sure what film to pick - has anyone any suggestions?

What area are you trying to put emphasis on?
I showed my 2nd years Avatar so we could study the special effects and production. They loved it. If it is for an English class, something a little less arty maybe? A teacher friend of mine showed her class "Romeo & Julliet" a while back, and then they had to rewrite the script and shoot a short film of their own taking the film as their inspiration. They had the art teacher help with props and costumes and the computers teacher helped film and edit. It worked brilliantly, plus it is something they will never forget.

    Yeah, its for English.

That sounds like an amazing idea - I don't think we would have access to any costumes, did your friend make them?

Ya it was great in fairness. It was for her hdip year. She got the kids to bring in costumes. The greatest problem was deciding whether to set in a contemporary era or Shakespeares time. They chose to do a modern one but to add elements of the old into it. I suppose much like the film.

When they were in art they made swords and masks and things. It actually worked so well and as i said the kids absolutely loved it and i would imagine would never forget the experience. You could even old auditions and let the kids who may not like the limelight do the casting, script, make-up, etc. Then others could work on the editing.

If you made it into lets say a 5-10 min film you could even burn them onto dvds and sell them in the school for a charity which the kids could pick, they would feel like they have contributed in some way maybe.
God, if it weren't so close to the Pre's i would actually love something like this in my class.:p
