2 weeks ago after heavy rain my 04 passat had water in the footwell behind the passenger seat. Does anyone know what might have caused it and how i get rid of water? How do I fix the problem.

Sometimes leaves and crap block the up the drains under the windscreen, and somehow the water gets into the ventilation and them makes its way to the outlet under the seat. To get to them I think you lift the bonnet and take off the plastic covers, you can then unblock the hole with a screwdriver or similar. Its been a while so I may be wrong on the location. On my A4 its hidden under the battery.

Check the drainplug underneath the battery, this can get blocked, causing water to enter the cabin. Very common.

I wrote a how to thread here a good while back regards servicing Diesel Passats with pics. I included pics on how to clear the drains in the pleumn chamber I usually check their clear every second service some people choose to take out the rubber bung altogether. See link:

If the floor is wet I would suggest lifting the carpet and make sure the CCU (Central Convenience Unit) isnt swimming in water. In order to take out as much water as possible I could mop up as much water with towels as possible, use a hairdryer to dry the carpet followed by sticking in a dehumidifier into the car to ensure its thoroughly dried out.

Oh forgot to mention there is two drain plugs in that chamber, one underneath the battery tray and the second is underneath the master cylinder.

I had the same problem in my 01 passat. I tried everything listed above but none of them were the problem.

I found the water was getting in along the bottom of the door and over the footwell rubbers. I now have towels laid across where the bottom of the door meets the footwell seal when the door is closed. No more wet footwells.
