Ya don't really 'service' gears. Either the gearbox is fcuked or its not. How ever I suppose its no harm to change the oil in it. Is there anything wrong with it? Auto or manual?

I just want to tune them up so they're smooth because they're a bit sticky especially from 4th to 5th...it's manual.oil in a gearbox?

There's nothing to tune or service in a manual gear box other than replacing or topping up the gear oil.

If 4th-5th gears are sticky when engaging it could be a number a things.

I'd have the gear oil checked first, then the linkage from the gear lever to the gearbox may be worn, need adjustment or simply need a drop of oil to lub up the joints. Those are the simplest and cheapest things to fix. Personally I suspect the linkage assuming you have no issues with the other gears; if oil was low I would expect you'd have problems in other gears too.

There could be a problem with the clutch but you would notice difficulty engaging other gears as well, especially from a standing start. Of course it could be possible that the gearbox is shot.

You don't service or tune up a gearbox.

If your having trouble selecting some gears, first make sure the selector cables are working correctly, then change the gear oil(something which is rarely done at correct intervals in Ireland). If there is no improvement then the synchromesh may be worn which would require a repair of your box or a replacement box.
