Any mechanics out there know if 'oxygen sensors' affects fuel consumption before I take my car in for a service, the mpg has gone up with the same driving conditions and I thought I'd ask the question before I'd put it in for service rather than afterwards. Its a quashquai '10 and i'd thought mpg would improve rather than disimprove?

Yes it would effect MPG. Is the engine management light on, amber light on the dash. This should come on. The CO sensor went on my wife's 07 Qashqui, while it was still under warranty. If it is gone you should not have to pay to get it replaced.

Thank you for your reply. It is petrol and there is no amber light on the dashboard but the MPG has gone down from 39/42 mpg to 33/34 mpg under same conditions and at the price of petrol....It is not at the mileage service interval yet and I just want to know how to approach the garage about it. We did notice one day stuck in traffic on a hot day for an hour there was a 'burnt' smell in the car and the temp went up half way but returned to normal once we got going again, don't know if this caused anything. Previous experience with garages is they ignore the things I say or say there is nothing wrong at all!

The temperature should be at half way (or the needle midway through the scale) approximately at normal operating temperature.

If its not reaching this there would be an increase in the fuel consumption.
