Skype Study Groups

Going to try and organise some study groups on various subjects.
The more people involved the better, as there will be a wider range of subjects. Some subjects will be difficult enough to do, but theory subjects, or the theory parts of practical subjects should be alright.

I'd like to remind people that with Skype you don't HAVE to have a webcam or anything of that nature and matter of factly in a group chat, you cannot use one. A common misconception made by those who are not familiar with Skype. Essentially what it is, is free calling between one person to another, in a group through the internet.

Have been using it of late with a few classmates and found it not only very effective, but an easy and often enjoyable (I know) was to study.
A much more laid back approach but unbeknownst to yourself you're learning and improving.

Skype is also an IM, so if you're not up for talking, you can always type...

Anyway, the subjects I'm doing are:
    Chemistry H
    Biology H
    Geography H
    Business H
    English H
    Maths O
    French O
    LCVP C

On top of these, have friend who will be doing:
    Irish H
    Engineering H
    Construction H
    Ag Science O
On top of some that I'll be doing...

Will be able to study subjects I'm doing HL with OL as well as the courses are generally similar enough, with extra material for HL.

    Skype Name is: anunusualaccident
    Email Address: christopher-martin1992@hotmail.com

Do add and leave Skype names and we should be able to get in some serious study before the Pre's!
They're going to be pretty laid back discussions so don't be afraid,
Nothing formal and not going to be judged, here to help,
God knows I'm not a genius myself, just revision...

Hopefully we'll get a few people doing it,
Going to try and get more from school...

By the way if you don't have Skype,
    Extremely easy to set up,
    Just download it,
Sign up, with this you'll make a Skype name,
Then log in with it and you're in.
    Go to find/add people/contact,
    Search "anunusualaccident,"
There shouldn't be many of that name...
Should be a Chris Martin next to it and an Ireland flag,
    Then you're in and ready.

Just need a mic, laptop/pc and internet and you're away.
Should be fun, hope to speak with you soon!

Could've picked a more memorable username,
As I have done here, "Chris Martin,"
But with that you don't get the buzz of perhaps forgetting it in a few years and racking your brains trying to think of a creative name that a boy of 16 (when I made it I think, maybe 17) would think up.
The novelty wears off after typing it in a few times but could be worse,
Like my email address of 13/14 years old,
This on will last me a good few years before it's deemed immature for my age
Til then I will remain... "an unususal accident" (no spaces)

    Oh yeah,
My brilliant idea that will make me temporarily rich but I will later squander it on cheap entertainment and alcohol :(
    Pretty "daycent" yeah :P
Sure I'm always online, may as well be learning stuff while doing so :D

Can tell you're impressed by your impressed face "<_<"
    :D

Wouldn't it be a bit awkward trying to study through Skype with people you've never spoken to before? Maybe it's just me :P

    Get used to it,
You'd think it would be awkward but the main problem really in meeting new people is having something to talk about...
Here, you've a subject to talk about, problem solved :D
Worth a try anyway, don't like it, dont return...
    Easy Peasy :)

    And Q & A's I reckon,
Testing on different sections and topics and that...
    Just a notion..

Does a teacher facilitate answering the questions or is it students answering them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭Chris Martin

Oh no no, all extremely laid back,
    Students teaching students,
One with a textbook or something asking questions,
    The other answering questions,
Test each other on certain sections/topics...
