Aer Lingus hiring aircraft what's involved?

Forget the dispute for a second.I would like to know how will aer lingus hire in aircraft what's involved with doing that? They said they're going to hire from ryanair ,obviously ryanair pilots too EI don't fly boeing 737's anymore and never flew the 800's.Will that not disrupt the ryanair schedules? What's involved with doing this?

EI have perfectly good airbus aircraft on the tarmac with pilots to fly them.I know some EI pilots used to fly the 737-400/500 but it's been a couple of years since that happened.Im sure they can't just throw an A320 pilot into a boeing 737-800 and off he goes. How does an airline lend staff/aircraft to another without impacting their schedule??

No- its a wet lease so Ryanair supply the aircraft and flightdeck + cabincrew. Ryanair do have standby aircraft in many locations that they could use for this

why don't they just hire cabin crew for their own planes? instead of hiring the enitre ryanair operation

i thought they hired titan airways to help out? they are a charter airline.. i've seen their 757 and 737 up in dublin the last few days

Wet lease means everything, aircraft and crew. Ryanair have aircraft sitting on the ground at this time of year, so they have spare capacity. They will operate as Aer Lingus flights though. So it won't be the Ryanair experience.

    Same with other operators.

You couldn't use Ryanair cabin crew on EI aircraft because they like the pilots would have to be retrained for the Airbus. Plus the company SOPs are different.

Here's a couple of Monarch aircraft on duty for EI today at Pier D. Phone pics so not great quality.

As has been mentioned they hire the aircraft and crew (flight deck and cabin) from the airline (FR, MON and Titan)and the airline will operate the flight with an EI flight number. They couldn't just hire crew for their own aircraft because these would have to be trained to EI operating procedures and this would take too long.

Clearly there are people who are not familiar with ACMI lease otherwise this thread wouldn't have been started.

I don't work in aviation.I just was wanted to find out the logistics of hiring in aircraft weather it was with a crew or not ,not really a silly question tbh

No I meant the joke about the umbrella

The original question is a good one

After all think about the person who pays their 15 euro to get an exit seat ( is anyone that silly ?? ) ... the aircraft is changed to a different type ... do they get their money back etc

Would the FR aircraft operating Aer Lingus flights be using the callsign shamrock or Ryanair?

I would guess EI as when FR chartered planes from EIrjet they stayed Ryanair.

Quite a few Monarch A321's at Dublin with Shamrock callsigns,
had the misfortune of having to travel on one yesterday. By far the most uncomfortable flight I've ever been on. Seats are so close together. I'm of average weight and height and when I lowered the tray, it touched my stomach. My knees were wedged into the seat infront of me with the armrests digging into my thighs. Luckily it was replacing a 320 so a few people moved into empty aisles and a good few middle seats were kept free. I haven't flown with FR for years, but I don't remember even them being that bad

BTW. I was on the one with the squeaky brakes, if you're at the airport you'll hear it.

I heard someone on the radio last night claiming that its costing Aer Lingus €400,000 per day to hire these aircraft.

I didn't catch his name but I think he was a union rep.

Surely it can't be this much.

    Can it ?

I presume the B767's mentIoned in another post are for transatlantic.

It would be cool if they chartered in some B747's or MD 11's :p

Shamrock. They operate under EIN flightplans and callsigns. Just the metal is Ryanair.

There's been an FR 738 on stand at Pier E the last 2 mornings but it's been too dark to get pics. Dying to get a pic of it with the EI branded airbridge hooked up to it!:D

Id say the pilots got a horn flying to CDG instead of some grubby backwater airport field with a shed

Wasn't there myself, but as it's Saturday I'd hazard a guess that it was the AF Cargo weekly flight.

Shamrock a wee bit confusing for the flight crew!

I flew with Monarch last Sunday the 30th as EI586 DUB-AGP on Monarch A321 G-OZBL. The Monarch crew were great and very friendly. Free tea or coffee and biscuit were given

ya, i saw this. it was an air france 747 plane and took off about 2.00 in the afternoon. couldnt see if it was cargo or not. was wondering what it was for though.

no matter how many times i see them taking off, i never ceased to be amazes at their awesomeness.

The seat pitch for Monarch is 29 inch's, it's 31 for Ryanair, and 32 for Air Lingus.
