    Sorry this is me imagining how it could happen but is it possible.

    How would the ambulance service contact First Responders if it wanted to have somebody to a patient within these new timelines. With technology getting better and cheaper would it be possible that each First Responder could be tracked via GPS? AEDs tagged with GPS? The tag could have details about level of responder.
    The Ambulance Control Centre could check a map on the computer and see is there a First Responder nearby; ring them and say;
    Somebody has collapsed down the road from where you are right now. There is an AED in the Credit Union on the same street. We are ringing them to bring the AED..........................Can you respond. We will have an Ambulance there in 20 mins

    Al, fire engines in our co. now are equipped with AEDs. But lack of protocols have meant that call outs to incidents for its intened use has meant that its not been added to any PDA`s. (pre determined attendance)

    Im am first responder trained, work in town on the main street, and would roster for such a service if introduced. Unfortunately, the CFO`s dont seem bothered to do any more about it. train the lads to use the machines, but dont gop any further as to make themn availabe to the public if they need it. and as you said, if an ambo cannot attend for 20/30 mins. patient is well brown bread at this stage
    :confused::confused::confused:

    The First Responder programme is up and running in Wicklow for some time now.
    As certain calls are received, ie Cardiac, the control system automatically alerts the first responder by mobile phone. Confirmation is then received that a First Responder is responding to the call. This and all other relevant information including any on scene update by the first responder is passed to the ambulance crew via Control as per normal procedure.
