    Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any vets, preferably in the south Tipperary region, that would be willing to meet us half-way (maybe at cost) in terms of spaying/nuetering feral/stray cats?

Like all small villages/towns in Ireland we have a major feral/stray cat problem. Being cat lovers we are affected daily by the plight of these poor cats. We have actually captured and socialised two local feral kittens, who have won our hearts and are now part of our family.

We wish to start a TNR program in our area. Hopefully this year we will apply for TNR funding through the Environmental Partnership Fund. But in the meantime will be paying from our own pockets. We also want raise awareness in our area as we know there are many well meaning generous people that unknowing to them are contributing to the problem by keeping unnuetered/unspayed cats well fed and in perfect condition for breeding.

We want to start with a cat that has been coming to us for a while now for food. She has had two litters of kittens that we are aware of, which even though we tried (a lot!) couldn't locate. She was a very good mammy and hid them very well!. One of the kittens I mentioned ealier is one of her offspring. The great news is we have built up a trust with her and we think that she will be perfect for rehoming once spayed (fingers crossed). We call her 'pretty eyes' because of her ridiculously big beautiful eyes!

Here's a picture taken a few months ago:

PS If anyone knows of anyone who might like to rehome her in the next few months please PM me.:)

    Thanks for your time,
    JKM

Just a quick edit, in case anyone was wondering, we have contacted our local SPCA and they are completely overwhelmed, overworked and underfunded, like most local SPCA's so we don't want to ask them to fund any nuetering/spaying. The last thing we want to do is depleat their funds, in fact we want to help them by taking on some of the responsibility.

Your best bet is to ring around all vets in the area, explain the situation and ask if they can make you a deal (making sure to mention that you will be bringing extra business to them through word of mouth/advertising from homing cats and give an approximation how many cats you will be bringing in every week/month). Quite a few vets will give a reduction on spaying/castration if you have numerous animals coming in so worth a try. Also, if you mention that you will be buying other veterinary supplies from them (wormer etc.) it might sweeten the deal.

Well done on trying to do something about this problem and hope you have success.
