    Row of shops on Lwr. Kilmacud Rd. (Mill House pub, Jeeves Dry Cleaners, Chartbusters (Closed), Gotham South, Chemist, Spar)

    Black smoke billowing the front roof of Chartbusters.

    6 fire engines, 1 ambulance, 4 cop cars on scene.

    Fire doesn't seem to have spread. Obvious worry with Texaco petrol station just across the road.

    //

    Update: Fire seems to be under control. Only 5 fire engines left. Less smoke visible. NO buildings burnt town. 98FM seems to have helped spread that rumour on twitter.

    Here's a video (courtesy of @David_McGrail), of how it looked shortly after 11. Appears to have been on fire for at least an hour or two already at that stage.

    Looks fairly big, so even if it hasn't fully destroyed any of the buildings along there, I'd imagine there'll need to be a lot of internal walls rebuilt at the very least.

    Wow Gotham and Jeeves got off very lightly. Imagine if that had of spread, it would have been very serious.

    Clearly someone on the tanning bed for too long.

    I've a mate who lives above the chemist there and his place just about survived as the fireman said the upstairs walls were pretty durable so his place above the chemist is ok, no idea when (or even if, I guess) he's moving back in though.

    Absolutely no proof of that whatsoever.

    Leave gossip and hearsay at the door please.

    Any idea when The Millhouse and that row of buildings were built? 1950s?

    From the Indo online;
    Diners forced to evacuate after fire outbreak

    By JIM CUSACK

    Sunday January 23 2011

    Dozens of restaurant diners, pub customers and staff had to be evacuated when a fire broke out at a vacant unit in a row of commercial businesses in Stillorgan in south Dublin on Friday night.

    Three firefighters suffered minor burn injuries as they checked an apartment above the vacant Chartbusters shop in the row of premises on Lower Kilmacud Road at around 9.30pm.

    Customers and staff in the adjoining Gotham City South, the Indian Summer restaurant and the Mill House pub were cleared from the premises as fire tenders -- supported by water tankers from Dublin City and Dun Laoghaire fire stations -- arrived.

    Jackie Keating, owner of the Gotham City South said: "The smoke alarm went off, but the chefs couldn't see any fire. It was only as people left that they saw the fire was next door." Billy Sheehan, manager of the Mill House, said: "We heard there was a fire and then all the fire engines and tankers came. We evacuated the place but it was very orderly."

    Structural engineers were examining the buildings yesterday. The blaze gutted the vacant premises, which also formerly housed a tanning shop.

    Has anyone been caught or have the Gardaí made a statement saying it was an arson attack?

    (On a side note; the sun-tan beds were taken out 2 weeks ago...come up with your own conclusions)

    The Mrs tried to get her stuff from Jeeves dry cleaners but there's a notice up saying there is smoke damage & customers should contact Jeeves' loss adjusters. :(
