Downloading drivers for graphics

Hi, I am getting a really bad resolution on my computer which is making the screen really big. I cannot adjust the resolution either in the control panel. I need to download the appropriate drivers from the manufacturing site of my PC and I have located them. The problem is it is not saving to my desktop as a .exe file and is just opening as a text file instead. It needs to be a .exe file to install the driver for the graphics to fix the resolution. Does anybody know how I can make it save as a .exe file? I've been pulling my hair out all night trying to fix this, would very much appreciate any tips.

    Thanks!!!

What driver and what site are you getting it from.

Also what Operating System are you running?

Do you know what caused the resolution problem in the first place?

    Hey, I'm trying to download

    http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WW1&catid=6&dateid=-1&impid=-1&osl=EN&typeid=-1&formatid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=DIM_CEL_1100&hidos=WW1&hidlang=en&TabIndex=&scanSupported=False&scanConsent=False

for Dell Dimension 1100. I bought the PC second hand but just the tower and am using my old 22inch screen I already had. I'm running windows XP also. I dunno why the resolution is the way it is and was working fine previously to me setting it up to my monitor.

Give me a chance to have a look at the specs. In the meantime, what do you mean working fine previous to setting it up to your monitor?
    Was there another monitor?

Also is 800x600 the only option you have in your display settings?

That driver downloads fine for me.

Select "Download" not Add to Download list.

Also choose To my Browser rather than the downloader program.

Also are you using Orbit or another type of download manager?

Thanks, yeah 800x600 is all I can get. I have been downloading it to my browser. What I meant by working fine prior to this was that what ever monitor the previous owner had, the screen resolution was fine. I am not sure what size or type of monitor it was however. Also I am not sure if I have a download manager installed.
