I wonder what graveyard slot it will be assigned by RTE.

    It'll be on at 9.55pm actually - a decent time-slot for once.

I posted about it in the US pace thread but I might leave this here for Irish pace.

Very good so far to be honest. I didn't think it would work, but the cast and chemistry between them is superb!

And if it gets a second season you won't be seeing it on RTE.
    Poor little buggers......

Frank Gallagher (UK) is a one off. Should be interesting to watch, Macy is a great actor .

Sky Atlantics UK and Ireland deal with showtime.

Don't judge it too harshly.. and you'll enjoy it.

I personally think the chemistry between the cast in the pilot of the US version was what won me over.

Seen the 3rd episode,I have never seen the uk verision but I really liked it.

I've always watched the original shameless, and felt dubious when I heard about this US one... but so far so good, and it reminds of the days when the UK one wasn't a characture of itself!

    Excellent casting here...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 339 ✭✭RodVelvet

Looks good so far, casting does seem pretty good.

Does any think Lip looks like the spit of Kevin Doyle?

Your man Macy said that he would have no problem playing a drunk because he has Irish ancestors  It's a bit like saying I have no problem playing a fat man because my ancestors are American.

    Fact!!

It was a bit weird watching knowing exactly what was going to happen next. Only changes in script were changing British references to American. Even the sets were laid out pretty similar. It was good, but strange.

Are they going to follow the English version for every episode? Even as characters left?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,130 ✭✭✭Rodin

how is this a showtime ''original'' series?
this must be the american version of original.

The lighting is far too kind.

I watched but for me Macy couldnt pull off the role Frank to be honest I found him annoying at times. I'd like to have seen what Woody Harrelson could have done in the role.

The other casting that bugged was that of Kev and Veronica (I loved these characters in the UK show)

It seem to be a direct copy of the UK pilot show

I doubt it. The Office was the same for the first episode but that changed.

I'm not sold on it yet tbh. Don't think we saw enough of Macy to make any judgement of how he'll shape up as Frank Gallagher. Don't think the chemistry between the kids is great either but will probably come as the storylines develop.

The girl who plays Karen looks the spits of Lindsey Lohan before she became a mess.

Thought Emmy Rossum was great, really stole the show and is absolutely stunning. The dude who played Steve was good too.

A cross between Doyler and Frodo

Definitely was weird knowing almost everything that was going to happen, but as another poster said. W Macy as Frank didn't sit right with me

I just the second half of it and hated it. I was surprised that they were so loyal to the UK script. It just all felt very imitated. I hope that they dont continue exactly along the lines of the UK one (With the characters leaving at the same time).

I dont remember seeing Tony last night though, Was he in it? He was quite a key character in those early episodes of the UK version.

The preview for next weeks one looks just like the second episode in the british one except Frank is in Toronto instead of France. The first series in Britain was only seven episodes and Steve & Fiona were gone after 17 so they're going to have to have some new storylines eventually. The third episode was the one were the Maguire family made their first appearance.

Yes he was shown once he was the copper who brought drunk Frank in home and interrupted Steve and Fiona's sexy time

emmy was the one saving grace of the show

Haven't read all of the comments on this show.

I thought it was strange how they got American lookalikes for many of the characters on this show.

Joan Cusack is a good choice for Sheila.

It pretty much the same as the UK original. William H. Macy does an excellent job.

Nice to see John Wells producing this, he was producer of ER. I wonder if they are using some of the ER outdoor sets?

Watched the repeat of episode 1 last night. It was better than I was expecting.

Emmy Rossum was a great choice for Fiona; even looks a little like Anne Marie Duff (but prettier). Not too sure about the casting of Kev and Veronica, and I don't think any actress could live up to what Maggie O'Neill did with Sheila.

But those minor niggles aside, it was pretty good. I'll certainly give the 2nd episode a go.

RTÉ have future rights to this show. It is not part of the HBO/Time Warner Sky Deal. From what I can gather.

I enjoyed this series and will watch it again on RTE. Although I felt some scenes are there for pure shock.

As one poster has typed, the lighting is far too kind.

Which ER outdoor sets have they used?
