The back to work allowance was stopped jan 09,I don't think there is any grants for tools ect, perhaps your local credit union is worth talking to ?

Had something similar 2 weeks ago
Could get a job but i must have a car
It would be a good paid job and had the contracts for it
But there was any bank who would lend me the money for a car
Even the local C.U wouldnt do it
So i lost that job and be back on the dole again
With no money and no transport its almost impossible getting back to work again now
It was a stupid move to stop the back to work allowance

Could you ask the boss to get the tools for you and deduct a reasonable amount out of your wages until they are paid for?

No problem, really hope it works out for you. I know personally how hard it can be to actually get back into work after a while.
