finance on car concern

    i have an agreement with a garage for a car. During negotiation i asked him was there any finance still on the car. he says there was originally but its sorted. i did a check on cartell and it showed there was finanace on it. i rang the finance company it was with and they confirmed. i phoned the dealer back and he said the money was now in with the finance company and gave me the name of the guy to speak to. i checked to make sure this guy works in the finance company. he does. i then rang him and he confirmed the agreement is that they gave the authority for the garage to sell on their behalf ..
    is this normal ? how do i cover my ass on this deal ?

    What garage are you buying from? It sounds ok to me if its not a shifty dealer...

    The car could be a repossession he's bought from a finance company, hasn't paid them yet and so it hasnt been cleared on HPI. Happens all the time, as long as you've spoke to the finance co and they've said its clear you're grand. Maybe get that in writing from them?

    that right,have them write on the bill of sale that there is no oustanding finance owed
