Driving licence classes

Was having a casual conversation with a colleague earlier and he stated that he used to have several classes on his licence i.e. C1/D1 etc and these were removed at the last renewal with the authority suggesting that he needed a medical in order to keep those classes (I am assuming that he had the classes as grandfather rights). Armed with a medical, could he now go back and get those classes re-added to his licence?

Nope, if he let them lapse they're gone for good. Only way to get them back is to sit a test.

It depends how long ago his licence expired.
A medical report is required for truck and bus categories.

He will have to do a CPC course at least which is over 5 days of training.
