I couldn't get tax back on college tuition fees

I recently tried to claim tax back on my tuition fees but was informed that I couldn't, as I hadn't paid any tax (I've been workin part time so haven't earned enough). I didn't realize this when I made the claim so my question is...
If I got my dad (who pays tax) to go make the claim again for the same thing would he get the tax back? Would they allow this since I already made the same claim?

Did he make the payment or you? If its you, your dad would be making a fraudulent claim.

Also was this just a registration fee as this isnt allowed.

It's tuition fees, not reg fees

How much do you have to earn to claim back your tax on fees???

last year you didn't pay tax on the first 18k or earning so at least that much.

If your father gave you the money to pay it, I see no reason why he shouldn't be able to claim it back, though it would be his money, not yours ;)

I'm a different poster?? Sorry :) I'm in the same boat

I'm just wondering cos i got my p21 there and am currently paying for fees in the north. I earned €16k last year (pittence!) and wouldn't of paid the fees if i can't get 20% back cos i won't be able to afford college!

I have seen many some guys been refused a tuition fees claim , but look , your best option is to give the tax office a ring and explain the course you are doing .

The qualifying conditions are at this link :

You would have to have paid whatever 20% is in the first place through PAYE in order to be able to get it back. More details can be found at http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/it31.html

    Correct.

If you ve paid any paye last year you can claim this back up to the limit of 20% of the fee you paid.
