    HI,
i'm getting married this july and we would like to go backpacking somewhere exotic. I've done a far share of travelling in my time but my gf has done no backpacking before so i don't want to rough it too much, after all it's a honeymoon. was thinking central america, maybe costa rica and one other country, but not sure of the weather in july.

So can anyone recommend a honeymoon destination for 16 days in july/aug this year. relise it's kind of an open question but if someone else on here did a similiar honeymoon, really appreciate some feedback.
    thanks

16 days with a wife that's never been backpacking, your going to have your work cut out for you. I'd start her off gently with some camping in kerry and see how it goes.
If it's a honeymoon try and lord it up a bit, nice hotels, luxury beds, room service etc. http://www.travelmood.ie/?gclid=CN6RsK-ry6YCFYJE3godxXH9IA
I've an awful feeling you'll be divorced by the time you get back if you go the backpacking route. It's easy for anyone that's done it before but for a noob it might not be the best idea, She'll never settle into it in that amount of time.

    Edit, I nearly forgot, Congratulations!!!

Well congratulations ! I would deffinitely recommend Colombia, seriously great country very friendly not nearly as dangerous as its been made out to be ( not now anyway ) Cargegana is on the north coast of Colombia would be great for a honymoon its an amazing colonial walled city.

Its on the carabean coast also so you have beutiful beaches nearby also plus the food is incredible.

Wow, I was just about to reply with Colombia! Cartagena is beautiful, I thought it was the most beautiful city we visited in South America and there are some fancy hotels if you want to do that (or cheaper but nice ones, we stayed in a lovely one, let me know if you want more details)
Then for the beaches you have Tayrona
Then hiking the ciudad perdida. It is a bit tough maybe if you’ve never done much hiking before, but doable, and really magical. You only walk in the mornings, then relax in afternoons, there are natural pools at most of the stops. Also, you’re staying in hammocks or on beds, not camping, so it’s more comfortable

Then there are loads of other places to visit if you have time, but we didn’t….
I think we were there only 10/11 days in total

jonniealan, cailinoBAC, i'd have a tough job convincing her to come along to columbia with me! i'll explore this further, esp the fact that both of you suggested it but i'd say it's a non runner, realise that it might be safe but i want to lord it up too as drunkmonkey suggested. thanks for replying though.

You could give Thailand a go. I brought my non-backpacking girlfriend there a few years ago and she loved it. Only thing about July is that it is one of the wetter months there. I wouldnt let that put you off as the rain although heavy usually clears after a hour or so.

well you could definitely lord it up in Cartagena. And there are amazing beaches, maybe the hiking could be left for another time. I just remember when I was there, my friend was getting married soon after and I was telling her how great it was and trying to convince her to go there on honeymoon! The whole swine flu debacle started soon after and they gave up on the carribean region, I'm sure they wouldn't have chosen it anyway, but I did my best!

hi Coues, thanks for the suggestion, i've been though thailand several times so would rather go somewhere else, the previous posters have stirred a sudden interest in columbia, the more i look into it the better it sounds..

Well how about Peru if you can't get her to go to Colombia? Colombia is fine but some people are a bit fearful because of the bad name it had/has.

Peru has everything, the beach, the mountains, the jungle, bit of history, some adventure stuff, hiking. It's a really great country.
