Sneaky, sneaky Tesco  Dirt cheap calls to evrywhere EXCEPT the U.K. A whopping 50c per min to ring a lanline or a mobile in the U.K.. Meteor are way cheaper at only 10c for the same calls.

I was coming into this thread thinking "pft, who uses phones to ring abroad, when there's skype and what not" but 2c mobile and 2c landline calls to the states and canada is pretty special

at 2 cents a minute, i dont even bother with skype. the sound quality on skype can be terrible a lot of the time.

been using tesco for a few years now, and find them fantastic value.only drawback is they need to get the proxy sorted out on smartphones.

Is it still the case that you can't use your bonus credit for international calls? i.e. If i top up by €10 and get €10 bonus credit i can still only use the original €10 to dial abroad?

Yes, that is correct. However your bonus credit gets used first where possible so if you are making Irish calls it will be taken from your bonus credit balance protecting your original credit.

You should do that , and pretty fast as well. As you well know the country Irish people call most is the U.K. Its not just by coincidence that the U.K calls are the highest, IMHO.

if they're roaming India and using an Irish Sim then you can call them and it won't cost you any more than it would if they were in Dublin. Th'd be charged more for picking up the call.

Curently our data is restricted to HTTP/Web traffic only through a proxy. Essentially this means that some functions like POP3/IMAP email wont work until we remove the restriction. Surfing and webmail work fine.

We expect to have this restriction removed in the next few weeks so customers can make the most of our competitive Prepaid Data Bundles.

does this mean that I will be able to use all features on my Smartphone (adobe flash player, youtube etc) when using a Tesco Sim card?
    great rates bye the way.
    Is 3G available on Tesco?
If you get your Data and International roaming costs outside the EU sorted out then I am moving over to Tesco

Scandal revealed in business tries to make money shocker

It's a great deal for anyone calling any other country (congo excepted), in fairness.

Shocking, the blantant cheek of a commercial business trying to pursue profit.
I've been using tescomobile since September purely because of the ultra-cheap calls to the US and for their free double credit.

Human beings have a peculiar way in going about making money. No news here indeed. Sign up to Skype and their data package and chat away to the UK for a couple of cent a minute.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,959 ✭✭✭✭scudzilla

Even cheaper way of keeping in contact wit UK

Buy a UK O2 sim card, pay £1.99 per month for the 'IRELAND BOLT ON'

Then yer phone classes Ireland as the UK network and your not roaming anymore, costs you nothing to pick up so people in UK can phone ya using yer free minutes.

You can't use your free texts or calls but it's 30p a min for first 3mins then 5p per min after.

Another cool bolt on for this is the 'INTERNATIONAL BOLT ON', that one's free and allows you to call most countries (landlines) for 5p a minute from UK

When the restriction is removed you will be able to use all apps. Until then some Internet apps using ports other than port 80 are blocked

I'm not slamming Tescomobile per se. I'm just pointing out the neat little sidestep they took when adding in the UK Landlines and Mobiles for 50c per min each.Of course its within their remit to set whatever rates they wish, but I see it as opportunism in the extreme to set a 50c rate for the U.K. They are the most expensive mobile company for calls to the U.K. I don't think too many people here will be ringing a Congo mobile;). IMO Tesco could easily match Meteor or even undercut it. If they go that route it would be a win, win, win case for them.

Ok interesting, cos I was thinking of getting a smart phone but thought I'd have to move from Tesco.
I'm happy with the double credit as it matches my usage, but I'd like to get a phone with gps/can have some apps to use.
    Any time-frame? roughly

tescomobile, could I ask you to please stop posting until we can sort out a verified account for you. While I appreciate that you're simply trying to be helpful and are passing on information, it could be construed as advertising, which is in breach of our site rules. Hi Zaph

I have been onto Darragh and others already about getting an official commercial account. They are working on it and I have permission to post in the interim. I am a long time contributor to boards under a personal id. I am very aware of the rules and I would be keen not to breach any of them. I will hold off posting in this thread if you feel I am out of order.

    Regards
    Paul

Buy a minimum of €10 credit, and the SIM card is free! ;) Also, you can, of course, keep your existing number when you switch.
