Cyclebike..?

A mate is looking at getting a bike built in Cyclebike, just off Capel St. Has anyone dealt with them before, and any comments on their experiences in dealing with them? My mates impressions of the shop and the staff were quite positive, but he obviously wants to be sure that others have found them ok before he commits to purchase.

I've dealt with them and they've always been professional and reliable.

I dealt with them when they were very small, they started out supplying bikes to companies on the B2W scheme, they had no public premises to speak of and a very limited stock at the time.

They were a bit hit-and-miss then - hard to get a hold of, hard to get any answers out of. But it's likely at that stage it was down to being busy more than anything. When I did manage to talk to someone (and called down to the Mary St. premises just after they'd moved in), the guys are sound and do know their stuff about bikes.

They seem to have grown extremely quickly as a company, which tends to make me wary, but their passion for bikes can't really be faulted so I don't think your mate is likely to be sold a dud.

I bought my Cube Acid from them there a few months ago and have gone back for accessories a few times. Everyone I've dealt with has been top notch so no complaints here.

I've never bought a bike off them but I have purchased numerous accessories off them and got some repair jobs done too.
It's now my favourite city centre bike shop. They do appear disorganised at times but the lads are straight up.

Anyone else experienced delays with bikes coming in with Cyclebike?

Ordered a Cube Ltd Comp on the 7th May and was told it would be in in 5/6 days, then was told another few days, then same happened again. Called again today and was told it might be in this week.

I know it's not a massive delay, but it annoys me when you expect something and get the run around, especially when it's costing you quite a bit.

Anyone experienced anything similar in there?

Sounds lads great shop, got lots of stuff and a great bike from them and all was good! only thing is there not great with emails so you have to call them! also they always are bussy and dont seem to get back to you if you ask them to get to a price for something - you need to call to follow it up, it will get done and they will give you a quote etc but just if you not texting them etc they seem to put in on the long finger - so as long as you rexlaxed enough to deal with them its no worrys!

Anyhow just keep at them and in the end im sure they will throw you something else for your wait if not well then ask them!

I've heard that certain Cubes are now hard to get due to an explosion of popularity.

Whitehawk are you waiting on a Cube MTB chainstay protector?

Went in to buy a decent lock and they knocked a bit off the price for me cause im a student and it wasnt the usual 10%

I asked and without hesitation they said no bother, will definitely be going to them!

Yes there top class lads - have to say i spent a long time looking for the right bike and right place to get it and cyclebike (buildabike) is the place i went for and so happy i did - overall just the place to go in dublin now i think and they also stock cube bikes and personly i think cube bikes are just class

They seem really decent in there alright, but I just hate when you're told one thing and then another happens.

I'll just have to keep hassling them. There's probably nothing they can do about it all the same, but it'd be nice to get a better idea of when I can expect it.

Top blokes. They seem handy enough with discounts if you ask. Ask them for servicing on your bike. I got well looked after and well be back to them for anything else I need in the future.

They are expensive imo. The cube x race was 200 more in there than cycle superstore. In addition the mechanic in there didn't know if a shimano 8speed hub was the same size as a 9/10. He has to ask 3 colleagues before giving the correct answer. My mates limit screw on his via nirone were off and left in to fix under service agreement. They appear to have not bothered looking at it at all. They have always been friendly though.

I bought my Trek there last year quality service and a great price too.

Yea the Cube Im waiting for was priced a good bit more in there than in cycle superstore, but they were happy enough to drop the price down the second I questioned it. Suppose it makes you feel like you're saving. They also throw in two years free servicing on the bikes.

They're expensive alright but I think the high prices reflect a lot of wiggle room on the part of the seller. Customer walks in, asks for the best deal and there's money off straight away. Haggle is my advice especially on big ticket purchases.

Ya when i deal with them or anybike shop for that matter i use sites like CRC etc for a guide line and then work so i get the kit cheaper then if i was to buy it online! seems to work for me, even now when i go in to them they dont mess around with the price they just know me and give me price that is fair to both of us! i think it all boils down to loyalty to the shop or what ever shop you go to, then you dont need to mess around with theying to get good deals as they know you and you know then! simple!

They are friendly guys, know their stuff and very sound about negotiating on price.
I bought a Cube Acid from them last year and yes there was a bit of a delay with ETA (I'd put this down to them just being busy though) but they were generous with a discount on the bike itself and all accessories I purchased with it.
As stated earlier - 2 years free servicing with all new bikes.
Other friends of mine have bought bikes from them and all have the same opinion as me.
I'd have no problem recommending them.

What kind of delay did you have?

Like I said earlier, I ordered mine on Sat the 7th May, was told it would be in on the wed/thursday. Thought this was very fast myself, and it wasnt in when I called them on the Wednesday, then they said the following monday, then they said the friday just gone, and yesterday said hopefully this week.

Two and a bit weeks isnt really the end of the world at all, but if it dragged on for a month I'd get pretty pissed off.....

I'd literally never set foot in the shop 'till I tried out a few bikes and ordered mine so can't help.

They are really sound lads in there but I have a little gripe today.

I was told yesterday I'd be called very early this morning about the time to pick up the bike, I wasn't called this morning, had to travel through town to go home so I decided to head in to the shop to see what the story was, arrived in at about 2 today and they told me it wasn't done (fair enough) But they told me it would be ready for collection at half 6 today.

I thought grand and went home, come 5:15 I made the hour journey in to the shop and arrive at about 6:15 The manager told me it wasn't done and it wouldn't of been anyway because it needed to be soaked for 24 hours to remove rust.

Now the fact it needs to be done that way is grand with me, but it is very frustrating to be let down twice in terms of not being contacted and given wrong information.

As I said the lads in there are really sound and I know they can get very busy but thats just my little gripe.

So they're more expensive than elsewhere, they don't deliver when they say they will, they don't reply to emails or phone calls, they don't have jobs finished on time and don't inform you so that you can be saved the hassle of travelling to them but they're "sound lads" so that's allright then? I think I'll stick with my current LBS ......

Yea doesn't sound great I know, but from being in there I just got the impression they are just run off their feet. Personally I went to cyclesuperstore first to look at Cubes but was left wandering round like a tool and no one approached to offer help/advice. As soon as I got into cyclebike I was told someone would be with me in a minute and they were decent about letting you take the bikes out and have a proper spin on them.

Obviously if I don't get my bike soon that might change though. I normally get all my bikes/bits and pieces from my local guy, but he couldnt get me what I wanted this time so went elsewhere.

i found the same with cyclesuperstore its also why i went with lands in cyc.

So apparently my bike was shipped today (I was told this last week as well), and will be here on Tuesday......

Ordered on the 7th May, and hopefully arrives on the 2nd June, and was supposed to to arrive on the 12th May.

That's me done with them once I get the bike I'd say. Annoying, because as has been pointed out they seem so decent in there.

Just found this old discussion but I can see that nothing changed since
I ordered a bike and was told 3 weeks, I've been waiting for 8 weeks now!!!!
2 weeks ago I sent an email asking for my bike delivery date, they replied they have delivery due in 5 days, it sound a bit generic info hence I asked if my bike was included in the next delivery..... no reply.... and no bike so far!?!?
this is really pissing me off now!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,575 ✭✭✭ZiabR

Thats not good, are they coming from China on the container ships? No reason for an 8 week delay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 Worrom

I feel your pain. I waited and waited and waited but eventually the bike came and I love it and had no trouble with it. I'm still sore however at the fact that after doing a deal where they said they'd throw in a pair of bike shoes, they didn't have my size & I got a pump instead - after waiting 8 to 10 weeks for the bike I wasn't going to chance waiting for the shoes. Good luck.
