A local Labour councellor put this up on his facebook this evening. The gist is that developing cycling infrastructure creates more jobs than developing motor infrastructure.

What is infrastructure like in the US? As bad as here -- i.e. not an adequate substitute for using the road?

To be honest, that's a lousy article. It doesn't tell you what you actually get for your money - just that there are a few more jobs created by making new cycle paths. It doesn't tell you the opportunity cost. What else could be done with that money?

If you want to get people cycling to work, you need to get the government to make sure there are economic incentives to do so - tax breaks, congestion charges and what have you. That will make a much bigger impact than whether there are dedicated cycle lanes.

Yes, job creation is an excellent metric for industrial planning.

Destroy the automated looms! Forsooth, they be in that direction!
