    hey,
I have a 03 ford focus & Im wondering if I should change the timing belt before it goes? Money is tight but I dont want it costing a fotune either cos I didnt bother changing it ! How often does it need to be changed?
Also the headlights keep going on the car - I only replaced them 2 months ago & now 1 is gone again! Any ideas on what could be causing this?

    thanks in advance.

Not sure on the interval the belt should be changed but I have the same problem with the lights. Lose a dip light at least every month. Think it has something to do with the windscreen deicer, seems to blow bulbs the more i have to use it.

According to Ford the belt on a petrol 1.4/1.6 focus should be changed every 100,000miles. The water pump and full timing belt kit should be done.

Expect to pay €300-€400 for parts supplied and fitted.

Or every 10 years, whichever comes first.

The water pump isn't belt driven on the 1.4, so you don't have to get it done. However, common sense says you should, and I probably would get it done.

A timing belt kit from a motor factors costs around 80-100 euro, expect to pay around 120-150euro labour with a good indy. If its main dealer, the prices above are about right.

The bulbs. By any chance do you fit them. And do you grab the glass part of the bulb and maul it? You should never touch the glass part of a bulb. Maybe thats the problem or else your fitting crap bulbs?

Thanks so much for all the replies.
Theres 75,000 miles on it but when I bought it a few years ago the dealer said that 'something' ( I dont know what) had gone on it & had to be replaces so theres more milage on it than 75,000.
Ill get it done in the next few months. Its great to know how much I should expect to pay.

Plug yip Im not fitting them myself but I am mauling them :D I wont again!
