Hey guys, Im fairly new to any bike maintenance, but anyway I've gotten a frame from my rowing coach, but its bottom bracket is in bits, cranks and gears are all in perfect nick, but I was wondering what I need to change the bottom bracket, or any idea on how much it would cost to repair professionally? Bear in mind I'm a poor student.

Do you know what type of BB it is or can you post a pic?

There's a fair bit in this thread about it - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056128922

ChainReaction are doing bottom brackets from about a fiver but you will need special tools, can buy individual tools from a fiver or so or complete bike tool kit from about €40.

Tools needed depends on the bottom bracket. But you will certainly need two tools, one for taking the crank/chainset off. (Probably like the one below)

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=10181

And one for removing the bottom bracket. This depends on the type of bracket but probably 5-10 euro's, replacement Bottom bracket probably costs between 7-12 euro, for a cheap one from chainreaction cycles.

It's not that tricky and you can do the job for under 30 euros total. Post a picture of your bike/crank set up, or find a similar picture online and post it. Someone will show you the right tools and methods.

If your in dublin you could go to rothar and install the new bb yourself. Only costs a fiver an hour to use the tools

I'm fairly sure they're the only 3 useful pics i got for today. Hope people can help me out with this. Thanks

It looks like a standard square taper. This would probably do the job - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=22376 but you need to know what size it is. You need to try and measure the full BB spindle length i.e. it's longest external measurement.

It's an adjustable bottom bracket. Some tips here.

    http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tooltips/bbcups.html

You can get the adjustable side off (the side you've pictured) with a hammer and chisel to get the lockring off and then a medium-size spanner to get the adjustable cup off.

The fixed cup will require a special tool, or something like this:

(Description of how to make it in the sheldonbrown.com link above)
