    hi all,

I have the mirena coil in at the moment and myself and husband have decided during the summer to get it removed and see what happens i'm planning to start folic acid in march i haven't had a period since i got the coil in last year so i don't know what way my system is.. I'm just wondering how long it took for anyone to get a period after they got the coil out and how long did it take for it to become more regular

    Thanks in advance

The mirena IUS is like any other type of contraception with artifical hormoane it can take 6 weeks to 6 months for your periods to return.

You can start taking the folic acid now. It wont do you any harm whatsoever, and you need to be taking it for a few months ideally prior to conception.

My fertility specialist said that women dont need any other prenatal vitamins, she said if I wanted to spend the money they wouldnt do any harm, but that folic acid was sufficient.

Its cheap, and while waiting for a baby, it will be great for your nails and hair. I had previously really brittle nails and the last time I broke one was October. :p

I cant give you adivise on the coil because I never had one, sorry.

Now is the time to give up cigarettes - both of you, if you smoke. Make an effort to bring in a bit more fruit & veg into your diets, and a little more exercise if you are not already active. Having a routine of all these little steps make it a little bit easier when the 'TTC' time comes.

    And welcome!

I had the mirena 3 times, taking a break between 2 of them & each time my cycle resumed within 4/5 weeks of removal.
I didn't start ttc until a year or so after I had it removed.

    Best of luck :)
