Well we're both 18 and my best friend has told me he has hepatitis b. I know it could be a lot worse. Is there any advice ye could give me to support him.
He got it last september. He only found out that he got it a while ago. There is a small chance that my blood has come into contact with his. So should I get tested but I've showed none of the symptoms!

Sorry I can't offer any advice as I know very little about it. Do you mind me asking how he contracted it?

if there has been blood/blood contact, then do get a test.

OP think about how long ago it was since you think you may have been in contact with his blood. If it is more than 3 months ago, go get tested, if it is less, wait until 3 months have passed and then get tested. 3 months is the general window period for detection of HEP B in the blood.

If you test negative and you think you may come in contact with his blood/semen at some stage in the future, then consider getting the HEP B vaccination.

As regards, your friend, he needs to work with his specialist. He, hopefully will be lucky and won't develop any long-term complications. Most people (adults) clear the infection without medical intervention and replication of the virus is suppressed in the body. Typically, a further negative test after 6 months will mean that the individual is all clear and is highly unlikely to develop long-term (liver) problems.

In the mean time doctors, may decide to treat it but it depends on your friends situation - he should know by March if he will turn out to have Chronic HEP B, hopefully he won't. This site can't give you or your friend any medical advice, he needs to work with his medical team and you need to get checked out as well (ASAP).

Just support him and be there for him as much as possible, there is nothing else you can do.

    Best of luck

I'm not too sure if you are genuine at all given all of your previous postings about your brother and parents and also the fact that you always post threads here and then the exact same discussion on other forums such as gaire.com. You probably need some counselling which boards.ie cant provide. So for your own sake we are banning you from this forum.
