Recommendations for flat-wounds for bass (on a budget)

I want to switch over to using flatwound strings on my bass.

The thing is, I need them for a session this weekend, so I'll have to get something available in town, and also, I don't have much money to spend.

    Any recommendations?

Also, will they sound good for recording on Saturday if I only put them on tomorrow (Friday) or do they take a while to wear in?

I like the Rotosound flats. Their rounds sound like ass but the flats are nice and not too pricey. They're also easy enough to find here. If you're REALLY stuck and can't find flats gimme a shout. I have an unopened set of D'Addario Chromes here (in Dublin).

They should sound fine for the session. The break in period is minimal and they shouldn't sound too different when they're not broken in compared to broken in. It is a different feel though.

Your bass may need a truss rod adjustment after stringing up with the flats as they're generally higher tension than rounds.

Agree with Dord, we've found minimal bed in time with flatwounds, but your instrument will require an adjustment as there is up to .9kg of tension difference in some strings.

We have flatwounds in stock and have them on an instrument if you'd like to try them out

Thanks lads for the advice. I'll call into DGC tomorrow.

Looking forward to making the switch.
