I apologise in advance, I know I probably shouldn't have started a new thread but I have a few questions so I thought if anyone could help with them on this, I'd really appreciate it! :)

Ok, basically, I'm on a year out from college because I want to change the course I'm doing (I was studying Law, and still want to do Law, just don't want to do it where I was), and because I should have chosen Law and Business in Trinity when I did the Leaving, but didn't and hadn't fully decided that I wanted to change last summer when I could have applied through the CAO again (I'm an idiot!). :(

Anyway, I'm hoping to start there this September, providing points don't change, and I'm wondering what the average age of first year students is? I'll be 21 when I start, and to me that's really old, but I hope I won't be considered a mature student because I'm not! I'm really nervous about this, as I don't want to be known as the "really old first year"! My sister will be heading into first year wherever she decides aswell, to make it worse!!

    Any help would be great!

PS: If I do get into Trinity, does anyone have any opinions on what clubs and societies would be good to join? I want to get really involved! I know the Law Soc, and is there a debating? I love swimming aswell, does anyone know what the swimming club is like? Also, does anyone know anything about the Irish Language Residence Scheme??

    Ok, no more questions! :o

21 isn't really that old, I'm sure they'll all be as mature as you are!

I think you should use college to try out new things, but just keep an open mind and choose during fresher's weel

    Thanks! I hope it's not!

Ya that's what I plan to do! Just wanted to see if any current students had any opinions or views!

Im 27, im in an evening course in trinity. So prob a bit differnet, but still age is only a number. Before trinity i was doing a ordinary degree in an other college. I was 24 when i started. So you will be grand. Just forget what age you are be involved, both in class and outside socially. DOnt become one these sit in the corner dont talk to anyone mature students (Your 21 so your not even a mature student.)

Trinity is great. Im only here a few months and enjoying every minute of it.

I'm 18 in first year, anything under 23 isn't old.

    How so?!

Oh no, definitely don't want to sit in the corner! I suppose when everyone's in the same course and doing the same thing, age doesn't play as a big a part?

Thanks for yere help! Feel a bit better about it already!

Law is a big course. There will definitely be older 1st years on the course. Mature students and also people like yourself who have changed courses or have taken a year out. I really wouldn't worry about it. I'm 28 and my close friends in college are 19, 20, 21 and 27. :)

I'm twenty and in first year right now, and honestly no one even realises I'm older until I tell them. It's pretty hard to distinguish people's ages when they're in the late teen -early twenties age bracket, so I wouldn't worry about standing out.
Besides twenty-one is not old, and there will probably be mature students much older than you around.
