So, looks like a 11th March General election. Government won't be in place in time for Paddy's day. Who should we send to meet Obama instead?

We shouldn't be sending anyone. The most appropriate person to do it considering the state of our finances is the Irish Ambassador in America. Would save a heap in transport costs.

How about nobody. They can use the money to fix the pot hole that's been fúcking up my wheel at the bottom of my road.

Is this a thinly disguised who are you voting for thread? I assume who ever wins the election would be going.

And let him hitch hike, also let him try and peddal meth over there to generate revenue

Knut Hamsun, he might have some funky ideas as to what Obama should do with his Noble peace prize.

Hmmm...Not aware that the public had a say in who to send to the US for Patricks days...anyways it should be the least of priorities at the moment I would say.

Lovin' Christ, I thought this was After Hours?! Do you actually think I want people to say "Enda Kenny."??

Can't the US President come here for once ffs. I hate people that always expect you to visit them but never visit you.

    eh...his wife and kids.

    Its St. Patricks Day

OUR NATIONAL DAY...shouldn't he be visiting us?

It would be nice not to have to work that into our budget this year...

It is highly unlikely a new government will be formed by the 17th of March and that all items be in place for sending people abroad to meed Obama.

Personally I believe the dating of the election is a cynical ploy to ensure that if FF dont get to meet Obama this year, then neither do any political party.

Who should meet Obama? Think it should be a "raffle" charlie and the chocolate factory style.

You dont need to get all worked up...You asked a question and I replied, just because it is AH doesnt mean I should't say what I feel is best in my own opinion...
The fact that it is AH doesnt give you the licence to expect what you will consider as a typical response

But its not the goverment who meets the president, its the elected party leader. The elected party would be known by that point surley.

Obama should be the one visiting our President. I'm sure Mary would make room for him and the family at Áras an Uachtaráin.

I'm pretty sure we haven't taken any money from them yet, so that makes no sense.

Just send Cowen over, and introduce him as Ireland's answer to Benedict Arnold.

Its the leader of the government that meets the president of the USA.

There is a good chance that a government may not have been formed at that stage.

Its not an issue if one party gets an outright majority on their own, but if they dont and need the support of other parties/individuals, talks to form a government could take some days (not withstanding the time taken to administer the counts, and any recounts that may be required)
    Cutting it tight.
