They welcome the events today and it's business as usual.

    Big surprise there...

What a shower of assholes. Why cant they just walk away?

Gormless might as well put up a big sign behind him saying the Greens are hopeless failures. 'We're staying in Govt with a party who kept us in the dark and are dictating to us'. Shameful.

Just reminded me, I watched animal farm the other day "power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely"

As soon as this shower came in they were a completely different party, more like the pds than the greens.

Hopefully they'll be resigned to the same fate as the pds

    Snakes and slimeballs.

What exactly do ye all expect the greens to do? Walking out on government today will make no difference and would not help the country at all.

I'm no supporter of the greens but I dont understand why people are being so hard on them today. They prevented FF from appointing new ministers (A good thing imo). I dont see how them walking out would help anyone. An election is decalred in March so where would be the value in them walking out?

The Greens just want their pensions.

    According to gormless

    Resignations took him by surprise

Was told by cowen last Sunday that cowen wanted to stay on as ff leader and wanted to appoint people to cabinet positions

Happy with election date wants to get finance bill out of the way

    Usual PR crap

Also what are they doing at the hotel and not the dail?

Think they use a hotel if it is just a party issue

You know, I feel sorry for the people who voted Green's... I really do.

I always thought this was a party who through thick and thin would stick to their principles (although it would be a cold day in hell before I'd have voted for them)... I really thought they had backbone, if a little bit on the lunatic side.

But windy, lying, two faced cowards I never thought.

The party can go to blazes for all I care, and I hope they do. But I can only try imagine how disappointed the people are who wasted a vote on them.

    An election on Feb 10th?

    An election on Feb 10th?

And what would you do with the finance bill? Bin it?

I personally dont see how an election earlier than the beginning of March is possible. It wouldnt even give candidates the opportunity to canvass.

    That's a problem why?

This news conference makes me despair for the country. The Greens haven't a clue what's gone on.

Been treated like mushrooms by FF, kept in the dark & fed full of shit.

They are utterly useless & devoid of any backbone. I'll enjoy watching them being wiped out in March.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,506 ✭✭✭maynooth_rules

I wasted a vote on them:(. I can still remember Mary Whites rant about Fianna Fail at our doorstep before the last election. These 6 gob****es have ruined a party that had fantastic potential. Now it will be no more in 2 months

Do you actually buy into this Finance Bill noncense. Its a ply by FF to buy more time and it has worked up until today. Elections in the past have been held in January and febuary, and it hasn't prevented Finance bills going through.

    That's a problem why?

Because this is how some people decide who to vote for. Canvassing involves calling to peoples doors, going to schools, appearing on TV's.

The point of the election is not to get FF out. The point of the election is to vote for who you think is the best to do the job. Through whatever medium, you should be aware of the people that you are voting for and their policies. I personally think an election earlier than the beginnng of March would not allow people to get to know all the candidates as well as they should.

I also believe that the finance bill should be put through by this government to give the next government something of a 'clean slate' when they begin.

I am no supporter of FF or Greens. But I really dont see what else the Greens could have said today - I know they had plenty of opportunity in previous months to get out but today I thin k they made the right call.

Yes, I do believe it. I think it is the responsibility of this government to carry it through.

The opposition offered the opportunity to return early from their xmas break to get the finance bill through, FF refused. It is being used quite simply as a tool to buy themselves time, but thankfully that time is running out now

People, let's remember this is the politics forum. If you cannot be civil, don't post. There's ways of showing disgust while remaining civil

Well, I am not sure what the reasons were that given for not returning early. But that cannot be changed now and in my posts, I was simply saying that the greens were correct in what they did today. I think they have been wrong plenty of times during this governments life. But today, I agreed with how they handled things.
