Anyone have experience with home teeth whitening kits, and would you recommend any.

    Regards,

    Paul.

Just ordered some 44% Carbamide peroxide, 20cc. Included were two dental trays and a uv lamp. £25 delivered from the UK.

That will save me €200 on the local "specialist". Spoke to an old mate who is a dentist last night, he says the dentists use the exact same gear.

    Sweet.

I charge 800 euro for bleaching and certainly dont use the same gear, but my results are fantastic and long lasting. You will get some whitening from these kits but the fit of the trays, the activity of the bleach (its potency goes down with time and storage conditions), and the ammount of senstivity are unpredictable and short lasting at best. If they were that great dentists would use it too. UV lamps no.....cheap blue light that does nothing yes.

Well, from what I have heard the process is the exact same.

How do you fit the trays, do you mould the tray specifically for each patient?

Each tray is custom moulded from an impression of the mouth. There is more to it than that but in basic terms. I dont used carbomide peroxide I use hydrogen peroxide in lower concentrations and also use high concentration bleach in the office (dangerious for night use) to boost and set the colour. I can clean the teeth also which makes a big difference and change fillings that wont bleach etc. etc. The bleach I use are guaranteed to be 100% active as they are refrigerated. The kit alone per patient cost me 250 euro + lab fees for the trays + 3 hours of chair time.

There is a big difference between professional bleaching by a dentist and these kits. Some people will get results with the kits or strips but for most the results are disappointing and short lived.

I'll have to give the kit a go and find out what happens, €800 is a lot of wonga.

    Update to follow.

    Later.

Hmm €800 you say! How's business these days?

Never been more busy, guess some people who have failed to get results with cheap kits and imprecise techniques are willing to pay for the fantastic results of deep bleaching. Its like anything, quality will cost. It can seem expensive, and it is, but that is because it take a lot of time, expensive bleach, cleaning etc. Not all bleaching is the same. If people want cheaper bleaching there is plenty out there

    I do appreciate the concern

Fitzgeme, how long would the teeth stay bleached for? And is there much sensitivity with it, and is it shortlived?

Teeth say bleached for life with simple maintenance, there is some sensitivity but its minimal and stops when the bleaching stops.

Can I clarify for some posters that have PM'ed me (rudely I must say and obviously without reading the posts) to give out about the price I said I charge, that 800 is for deep bleaching this is not regular bleaching. Regular bleaching is a fraction of the cost and gives lesser results. I am not trying to get patients but only give information for those that there is something better out there, yeah it costs more but its better and take infinatly more time and effort to achieve. There are many dentists that provide deep bleaching in ireland.
