Before I order the blueface calls for life offer I was just doing a bit of researching on the web, and came across 'quality of service', that will set priority to voice traffic on a modem?. To set this you need to configure interface of your device and follow certain instructions, I believe entering the port range 10000 to 20000 and udp priority high.Enabling this may improve/sustain call quality.
The instructions given were for a different modem, however and when I contacted support at blueface, they were unable to help me because the modem was not supplied by them.
I was wondering have any blueface customers using the cisco 2425 configured their settings to the above, and if so could you share this info' in laymans terms please.
Thank you in advance for any advice given.

It's not essential to enable QoS for voice, but it may help - for example if you are trashing the UPC broadband connection with simultaneous large downloads you want to ensure your voice calls are not affected.

It’s not up to BlueFace to provide the settings for this device. Does this UPC modem / router have any user configurable options? Some routers actually have video / voice QoS enabled by default.

Thank you for your comments, I managed to access the modems options where it is showing numerous options like basic settings, advanced settings, firewall, wireless and have subsections in each of these fields, like port filtering, port forwarding etc but I wouldn't know where to start. Hopefully qos is enabled by default, but I don't know if this is the case.

I've had a look through the manual for that modem/router and there is no mention of QoS options (http://www.comhem.se/blob/view/-/14442/data/4530/-/manual_cisco.pdf.pdf).

You could purchase a seperate QoS aware router, and disable the wireless functions of the Cisco device (essentially using it just as a modem). But that would cost money.

You could also just get a phone number and landline direct from UPC. This would enable the phone port on the UPC modem/router. I'd be fairly confident in saying that QoS would be enabled for a UPC phone service using a dedicated port!

Otherwise, my advice would be to carry on as planned and only worry about QoS if it becomes a problem (in most cases, it will be fine).

    Hi,
Wrongly or rightly i swapped out the old separate modem and Netgear combo for an EPC2425. I too have a blueface ATA.
I wanted to get rid of the ATA and config the cisco ATA to point to the Blueface SIP and Proxy, but all I can find out is that you can't access these settings, and they are locked to UPC. (I'm sure some clever person here knows how to do this though)

I'm also curious about what 2425 settings would improve the Blueface call quality?

Any ideas on what to check, change on the 2425 to improve call quality??
