Busy man on a very short contract. For now we enter a period of quiet on the transport front. By May things should get buzzing here again. OR NOT.:D

It is a great misfortune that the extended and continuing debacle at government level has consumed all political and media attention which in turn has meant that the sub-debacle of Dublin Bus's Network Direct project has been allowed go on without oversight, questioning or intervention.

Xper,I too share your mystification at how the systematic dismantling of a previously effective (but capable of improvement) system has been allowed to proceed without any expression of interest from the usual suspects.

By this stage I would have expected all manner of loonies to have stepped forward to state their position, but it seems a conspiracy of silence has decended..???

New minister of transport to be announced soon.

Likely Fine Gael. Maybe Varadkar, Coveney, Fergus O'Dowd???

Minister of Transport and Tourism now, isn't it?

    good point.

whoever is chosen it looks like public transport infrastructure spending is over. The PfG refers to more diverse bus services.

The PfG is 64 pages long but transport comes up on p63 and planning on p64. I'd imagine that shows the relative importance of these areas to the two parties. Transport and planning can be looked at once everything else is done.

I haven't actually read that, but Newstalk were making the point that there are only 2 pages in finance in it too. Must be an awful lots of waffle if two major areas like transport and finance can only take up 4 pages.

On the plus side he might gets Newlands done if he lives just down the road in Lucan.

    From the Irish Times' website:
Mr Varadkar said the priorities for his Department would be the abolition of the travel tax, the reform of some labour agreements to make tourism more competitive and to have integrated ticketing within a year.
