Wouldn't see it happening myself except for the commercial shoots. I think what a lot of shooters really want to see is a better system when putting in cold weather bans. Then there is no need for extensions at the end of the season.

Nothing on the NARGC website but I had heard the same and I also doubt it;s true

I couldn't see the NARGC supporting and extension, if they had their way they would have closed it on Dec. 31st, to cut down on claims in the bad weather.

A argument could be made to extend the woodcock season, one of our older members tells us that it was open until the end of Feb at one stage and then brought forward to Feb 14th and then for "one year only" to conduct a survey moved to Jan 31st. But conveniently never moved back to Feb 14th after the one year.
I Guess Board wasn't around that time!!

The NARGC sought a meeting with the NPWS last week to discuss among other things 'an extension to the season'.
Nothing announced since so it looks like it won't go ahead.

You might ask that person who is well up in the NARGC about the state of the compensation fund. Is there still as much money in it as they say, because there is something fishy about the way they handled the whole cold weather ban, they were afraid of their lives that there was going to be a raft of claims during the cold spell.

Do you want me to ask him how's he getting on with the extension to the hunting season while I'm at it?

Go ahead but you'd be talking to the wrong man.

As for the general concensus here that the NARGC initiated the hunting ban for insurance reasons think again.
There's an agenda behind it all but your barking up the wrong tree.
    Pure politics.

Sure we all know its politics, the CAI and IFA would automatically have to support a ban if the NARGC propose one on the grounds of giving the birds a chance to recover, otherwise they'ld look like a right shower!

Taken from the NARGC site this morning.

    HUNTING SEASON EXTENSION

We are receiving many calls to our Offices seeking information regarding the above.
The situation as of this Friday morning, January 21st 2011, is that we are still awaiting word from the NPWS. As soon as the Minister, Mr John Gormley, T.D. gives his decision, it will be immediately posted on this website.

[As seen on Dail TV!!!.Sale price 200 Billion Euros!!! CAUTION! Inhaling this solution may cause hallucinations, impair judgement, and cause early retirements!]

Better would be to discuss and formulate a proper plan on when, where ,how a cWB should be introduced.
