Amsterdam - Hotel Recommendation

There is a group of 4 of us going to Amsterdam next weekend. I have been looking up hotels for the past few days and have been told to stay in the Dam Square area as it's central to everything, alot of the hotels have bad reviews about mice and bed bugs.

If anyone has been to Amsterdam that can recommend a cheap hotel in the city centre/Dam Square area that would be great :)

    Thank you.

stayed ion the royal taste which is near the centre of the red light and only 5mins from dam sq. very simple and cheap accomodation. but take ear plugs. our room had 3 double glass veranda doors that faced the street and the noise went on until 6am or later. drove me mental. even so I still like a-dam. would of liked it more if I hadn't suffered sleep deprivation.

Average time in a booth from my window was 8 to 12 minutes. but you pay for 20? Must be a nerves thing. Wife thought it was hilarious and a great way to nose.

PS - a lot of rooms are on the back and much quieter. Stairs in most places are like rock faces, savagley steep, pack light.
