Out March 25th for the UK release.

Seems Ubisoft changed the name from the previous Storm of War: Battle of Britain.

Special Edition looks really cool too.
Cloth Map of the Channel and Spitfire Manual.
I'm just after getting a nice G940 and i7 PC just to be sure I'm ready for it lol.

They havent released specs yet though have they? Also Luthier over on the maddox forum confirmed that there is a luftwaffe campaign despite what the press releases stated

    It's unlocked on Steam currently.

Did anyone pick it up ?
I'll probably do so on my way home :D Can't believe it's finally out..
il2 is the only flight sim I think I've always installed everytime I upgrade my system :D

I think I'll stick with Warthog for another week or two and see where the patches take CoD, it seems to be diappointingly buggy at the moment.

It's amazing to me how anyone could release this and be happy with it as a final product - it's almost unplayable.

They didn't want to release it , UBISOFT pushed it out.
The dev's said that they're a few weeks short of the product they wanted to release.

Hmm. I seem to recall that Ubisoft did the exact same thing with Silent Hunter III, didn't they?

Ya on Silent Hunter 5 they made a S£$t of it..I have to say though I'm really enjoying this although it's clearly unfinished.

Getting great FPS with the grass turned off and Forests at medium. Still alot of work to be done though. Can't find any online servers to try multiplayer.

I'd need to upgrade to whole PC just to get off the ground I reckon :(

Not great now, but will be ,keep the faith all!Buy it !Original IL2 blew up a pc(well , power supply!) I tried to run it on in 'the early days'!

First major Patch is out on Friday which should resolve any issues people have with framerates.
After that we all know what to expect (Years of updates and new aircraft :D )

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,456 ✭✭✭✭Mr Benevolent

Hah, it's been cracked already. Ridiculously easily too.

    I quite like it though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,582 ✭✭✭✭kowloon

I gather it has no Crossfire or SLI support. Hope that gets fixed, lots out there with that setup who won't get a decent experience with one of their cards disabled.

For anyone late to the thread and struggling THIS is what worked for me (there are a few different versions of the 'instructions')

First, get the sfsMOD for the link www.kegetys.net/misc

Install that FIRST according to the read me. You simply toss the kegetys.dll file where it tells you and then AFTER you backup the Launcher.exe.config file you make the edits shown in RED in the readme.

Now, once that is done, download the lotex and the noSSAO mod folders

    links here in this thread/post

    http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthre...opics/3265101/1.html

and put those folders where they tell you (the maid IL2 COD Directory steam/steamapps etc.)

Then for simplicity sake, open STEAM and in LIBRARY right click on the IL2 game and go to properties.. Under the GENERAL tab go to launch options and enter the following..

    -mod=nossao -mod=lowtex

thats it.. hit OK and exit...

When you run the game through steam those 2 should work..

What kind of spec machines are you guys running? Frame rates? Any obvious benefits over Nvidia/ATI? I've just got an Athlon 7750 2.7Ghz, Geforce 7600 with 2Gb DDR2. Probably time for a new graphics card :)

Looks very nice, hopefully as people say it will be patched up well in the coming months.

We should get an Irish multiplayer server going!

E8600 overclocked to 4.4GHz GTX295 4GB RAM...doin ok at lowish res with most settings maxxed out.Id caution against spending much on an already aging pc....might be better saving for a new machine if at all poss...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,456 ✭✭✭✭Mr Benevolent

Asus P5Q Pro, E6600 overclocked to 3.1GHZ, 4GB RAM, 1GB HD5770, running mediumish settings @ 1024X1280. Haven't tweaked it much and am getting reasonable framerates over the sea - not great on land. Harder to fly than IL2 FB, the graphics are beautiful and the cockpit shadows are just magic. Haven't got the new patch yet, should be a fair bit faster though.

Next upgrade will be an SSD drive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,246 ✭✭✭✭Dyr

hmm..I'm not investing in a new machine until this has settled down a bit more..mucho panic on forums right now.

    Steam

I'd wait a month or two though.

Patch is out. Not much difference, and it re-enables the anti-epilepsy filter

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,200 ✭✭✭muppetkiller

I'm running everything on max settings at 1900 x 1080 and getting very good framerates since the new patch yesterday.

They've still a mountain of patching to do but it's improving rapidly.

    I'm running it on an
    i7 -920 (2.8 Ghz)
    8 gigs Ram
    ATI 6950 (2 GIG)
    g940 controls.

I think this will eventually run on every PC fairly well. It makes you wonder though why they released it in such a state when it only took two weeks to fix a lot of the framerate issues.

Have a GERMAN language version of the Collectors Edition for sale if anyones interested .It was the only 'hard copy' available at the time and then I cracked anyway and bought the Steam online version so its still in sealed wrapper from amazon.de.The Steam online/download version is 50 quid and this cost me 74 with postage .For your extra 24 quid you get a very hefty paper manual ,genuine reproduction manual of Spitfire Pilots handbook(IN ENGLISH) from WW2 and a 'teatowel' style (escape) map(IN ENGLISH) of the game area .The manual ,large outer cardboard box ,and 'dvd' sleeve insert are IN GERMAN.
Alternatively if anybody's interested in just some of the set let me know please.
As regards the game itself well its coming along steadily but I find its like being back in 2001 trying to play the original IL2 ...babysteps !Still great fun tearing into Heinkels though!

Been playing around with the the last few weeks, even on a PC that doesnt meet the minimum spec I've been getting away with playing some light quick missions. Graphics are very impressive. Really liking the gunnery too, canons give out smoke trails just like the old nose cam footage. Pulling through a load of cloud and finding the cockpit icing up was a nice moment too.

Being able to zip across the channel for missions is a bonus. No more trekking halfway across Papua new guinea on a bombing run.

What I'd really like to see is an add on for night fighting, especially mid-late war era night fighting. The dusk/night environment is excellent, could really work a treat.

what's the story with this game now? has it been patched so you don't need a NASA super computer to run it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,200 ✭✭✭muppetkiller

I think it's running fine now. There's a major Patch again due in two weeks ( :p ) but the campaign and Single player missions so far are rubbish. Online only is the option at the moment.
I'd still pick it up though I am having great fun online with it.

I bought it (steam) and it runs fine for me (i3 o/c, 4GB, GTX260, W764pro). However I don't really know why but it just doesn't do it for me like 1946 does. Maybe I'm missing my pony. After I few days of persisting I caved in and went back to 1946.

Maybe I'll get back into Cod at a later date.

No you're dead right ..I was the same ..I still play 1946 more. There's simply no content out there yet. I don't have time to create my own missions so I'll wait a few months till some of the add-ons and user made campaigns come out. Seriously Check out Rise of Flight though..it's brilliant.
