ABS light on means issue with the ABS system, it's not working, so if you slam on the brakes the wheels will lock up. Could be loads of things, washing won't do much for the sensors anyway, realistically you need a mechanic or someone with a clue (fault code reader) to diagnose it.

Hi you need to have the fault read from the cars ECU memory by a diagnostic reader..

Any work done your car recently? New brakes or tyres?

A new set of alloy wheels prehaps?

Are the tyres sizes the same all around? Are you running on a spare wheel?

    cheers,
    CM

It could be a dirty sensor that needs cleaning, or it could be a wiring issue.
Get the code read first, even though it's 50 to get it read it's cheaper than randomly trying to fix things and maybe breaking them.

If the ABS light is on, your ABS system isn't working. When you have the fault diagnosed and repaired the light will go off...

Wire it to the battery light .. thats the uk chop shop solution

[edit] I'm not actually suggesting you do that! but its on the list of common things on the dodgy used car market along with the coke can instead of an airbag[/edit]
