Kinsale roundabout question

    Hi,

I'm going to be driving from Waterford City to Cork on Friday for the first time.

I have to go through the Jack Lynch tunnel, to get on to the Kinsale Roundabout, then take the exit for Turner's Cross.

I know that I'll come to a set of traffic lights before the roundabout, so my question is, which lane should I be in to take the Turner's Cross exit?

It will be around 6pm by the time I get there, so there will surely be a fair bit of traffic, so just want to get the lane right in my head and I won't have to cut anyone up on the thing. :o

Wasn't sure if this question was better here or on the Cork forum, Mods can move it there if it's where it belongs.

    Thanks!

When you go down the slip road say in the middle lane. This sounds confusing but the right lane is for the city centre and the lane to the left of that is your one. The exit for Turners Cross is the exit before the city.:)

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I think there are three lanes approaching roundabout (goes from two into three about 200 metres from roundabout). Stay in the middle lane and you should be ok. There is a set of lights at the roundabout and not before. After you pass the second exit (for West I think) you have to immediately make a bee-line for the left-most lane. Be careful making this manouvre as it sometimes can be dodgy. Your exit is the next exit which is not as big an exit as all others on the roundabout.I hope this is clear.

To get off at Turner's Cross you need to be in the right lane approaching the roundabout or the 2nd from the right (two ways to get to Turners Cross)

If in the rightmost lane take the 4th exit (signposted The City me thinks) off the roundabout onto a dual carraigeway, go through a set of lights after 500 yards or so and then Turners Cross is the sliproad off the dualcarraigeway, at top of sliproad take a left onto the main road and you then drop onto Turners Cross.

If in the 2nd lane to the right take the 3rd exit off, keep going on straight through 2 sets of lights (1st at Woodies DIY, 2nd at AIB Bank), 3rd set of lights (just after soccer stadium on your left) you can only go left or right, that's Turners Cross :)

Sounds right to me, be careful there haha.
You'll pass two exits (and two more sets of trafffic lights) before your exit to Turners X, one heading up to the airport, one to get back onto the south "ring". As you go under the flyover you should be getting into the furthest left lane.

edit, i'm referrign to the first possible exit for turners cross, which as mentioned above is quite a small exit compared to all the others.

Just pay attention to the lane markings (you 'sort of' drift left as you go around the roundabout). If you approach in the middle lane, the markings will automatically lead you to the 3rd exit for Turner's Cross (no need to change lanes on the r'bout).

Yup,,just make sure when your at the lights that are under the flyover that your in the Left lane...The first exit after the flyover is going to be the one for Turners Cross....

But,that depends on what part of Turners Cross your heading to.

You can also head towards the City, and take the slip road on the left for Turners Cross there also.

But,if your not sure,,The first option is the best!

This is the way I'll be going, as not going all the way to Turner's Cross, I'll be turning off to head to Ballyphehane.

Looks like I'll be ok, if I stick to the middle so...

    Thanks for all the replies!

I would say middle as the right lane should be really for cork city or back round to the south link to the tunnel.

    :[/I]

Approach in the left lane and you're liable to cause a crash.

Turn off left at AIB/Centra so. You're heading down Pearse Road yeah?

In fairness Padraig mor I have to say sexyguy is correct. Once you are in the left lane under the flyover you are correct.

    That's right yeah.

Seems a bit of confusion as to whether to stay in the left, or middle lane approaching the roundabout, though...?

I guess I'll try my best to read the road markings. If I'm in the wrong lane at the lights, I'm just gonna sit there with my indicator on till some kind person lets me out :D

Stay in the middle land approaching the roundabout however as you are going back under the flyover while on the roundabout you should make your way for the left hand lane. I'm guessing thats where the confusion is.

Apologies, read sexy's comment wrong (thought he meant left on approach). Middle on approach, left (directly) under flyover.

BTW have a look at Google Streetview, you can see it clearly there.

    To OP:

Please see enclosed map/overlay... stick to the middle land and follow the red dots..... be prepared for us locals who have our own version of the rules of the road... in some cases people use the while lines like pilots... ie drive ON the lines, not between them... best of luck!

Use your horn to deflect other road users... and you'll be fine! :pac:

    It's just another roundabout.
Use google maps with directions to guide you.
Old thread lock, if you want you can start a fresh thread but don't use all uppercase, it looks as though you are screaming at us.
