I've just got apple TV and trying to get up to speed, I know I need a US iTunes account to access TV Shows but just wondering if the movies available are different when you use a US account i.e. Do new releases comes available earlier on US iTunes?

Is there any issue using a US account here with an Irish IP address?

Yes the US store have a much bigger selection and get movies ahead of the Irish store. You will have no issues with IP address, simply log out of one store and into the other. Bit laborious having to input username & password every time you switch but it works fine. More awkward on the apple tv in particular as you have to use the remote to input the details :p

As said above the content is much better plus you get to watch box sets of nearly anything:D

Very easy to set up go iTunes store in the USA then click on a free app click buy then where it says sign in or create an account click set up new account

Put in an email address, the zip code I used 90210, then credit card option visa, master card,NONE click that option!! Your all set.Now to buy us store credit for the us movies or tv shows click http://www.maximuscards.com/?ref=ffr4y1x56t

Thats where I get my $ iTunes card normally within 30 mins depends on the time difference there based in floridia.Hope that helps;)

Use remote app (free) on iPhone or iPod touch. It brings up a keyboard instead and is a much quicker way of doing it.

Now just get yourself a dd-wrt router a netflix subscription and now see whats available to you for $7.99 a month. If you have a ps3 get yourself a hulu plus sub and even more comes alive. I must say 8mb bb is a min though.

I was looking at the netflix sub alright but wasn't sure how I would proxy/vpn it I also have a PS3 so was wondering about the hulu, might drop you a PM and you get a chance you can point me in the right direction.

No prob. I have Netflix runnin on apple tv and also have Netflix and Hulu running on PS3. Quality is superb. Hulu can be tempermental if missus is on web at same time but Netflix is unreal quality. Might buffer in first 10-20 seconds but after that no problems.

I think you have to be signed in to the same account on both pc and atv.

Sign in to your account which ever has your music on and stream from there

What will a dd-wrt router do for me? What can it do that my regular router can't do?

A dd-wrt router used with your existing router and a VPN account will allow you set up a wireless network which will give everything that connects to it a us or uk or wherever you want ip address. Therefore your apple tv will think it's in the us so will an iPhone laptop etc etc. and you can watch us shows and netflix etc. if you have an account. You can also change the location you want to be from very easily.

I'm going to the states on Monday for 3 days. Should I get my apple TV there or does it make any difference? I mean does the machine have localisation built in or is it dependent on the iTunes login?

Shouldn't make a difference. Only thing is power cord will be different 2 pin instead of 3 pin. There's only 30 quid in the difference though. I have an Irish , uk and us iTunes account and all work on atv.

Ok I'm waiting till I get home to get it, I've set up an iTunes account while here in the states. Should I buy some prepaid credits while here?
Also, I have UPC, if I get the router mentioned in an earlier post, will it work on the cable system? Did I read somewhere that cable is not as easy to reassign a different ip address?

Should be fine on the cable system as it sits on your side of the UPC modem. iTunes cards will help and will also mean that if you want to just download from iTunes you wouldn't need a router as iTunes will only let you buy from the store for which your usernam is registered. So you can download tv shows from us iTunes with your us iTunes account and watch them on your Irish iPhone iPad tv etc with no problems.

Is it possible to combine content purchased on 2 separate iTunes accounts into one iTunes library? I have my iTunes library stored on a Mac mini. I then use home share to stream the content to various devices around the house. If I start to purchase some content from a US iTunes account, will I still be able to do this?

Yep, it's fine. I have content from my Irish, UK, and US iTunes accounts on my iTunes library on my MBP without any problems. Updating apps does require you to log back in to the account you bought/downloaded the app through, other than that it doesn't matter which account was used.

I'm very curious about this too. I have UPC 30mb, an Apple TV and an Airport Extreme, what exactly would I need to do to get Netflix to work?
