Why would Ducketts Grove be haunted by the banshee??Were Ducketts originally O' Duckett??

No the house was owned by a J.D Duckett. The interviews for this were filmed about 6 weeks ago, they interviewed a few locals living near the castle.

I'm well aware of the history of the house, but have never heard anything of a banshee there and have a feeling it's begosh and begorrah stuff for the Yanks.

Ive been researching ghost stories in carlow for the past year, and Ive found nothing at all to link Ducketts Grove to anything paranormal - outside of a phantom fox hunt that seems to link a few old estates (ie, its a made up story).

Certainly nothing to do with banshees - which is what I told the researcher for this when he contacted me last year. Didnt seem to put him off though.

Josh’s return to Ireland marks the one-year anniversary of the series’ most-watched episode (featuring a hunt for the leprechaun that aired on St. Patrick’s Day 2010).

    Wow... just wow........

As Ducketts grove is beside a public road and open to the public, does this mean we can go out there on that day and watch the "investigation"

I suppose we need to hope that this is a positive for Carlow.

I was amazed to meet a young intelligent American woman recently who referred to "the little people" at every turn and seemed to think we Irish did too.

It will be interesting to see how they try to weave a banshee story ,I wonder do they even understand any of the tradition.

By the way,see link below, to the story of what we were always told of "the only Protestant the banshee ever cried for"

It's been aired on Sy Fy.. (science fiction) that's answers all my questions..

But I am interested in seeing it though.. Any publicity is good publicity in my books..

I agree. Ducketts is one of the most beautiful castles in Ireland in my opinion, and anything that might drive some extra tourism is a good thing. I'm always amazed at how many Irish people have never even heard of some of the incredible architectural sites we have scattered around the country so do no harm for awareness at least. (though I'm a castle nerd, so that comment might be very unfair)

And in fairness, Ducketts DOES look as spooky as you can ask for. I've done some photo shoots down there on a few occasions, and some of the pics would certainly send a shiver down your spine.

I wonder how you "catch" a banshee though? Maybe leave a box of brand new combs in the back of a cage with an automatic trap gate? :)

Amazing how many Carlow people haven't even been to the Browneshill dolmen, never mind the Haroldstown one!!And of course,in keeping with the theme, the Banshee stone near Borris

Is this being aired on the SYFY channel on Sky television?

The set will be closed to outsiders to allow for an authentic experience and Josh says they will be striving to “see if we can experience what others have”. Irish viewers can catch the show St Patrick’s Day on

    Syfy.com

    from 11pm.

I drove up there about an hour ago in the hope they may have a live audience but the road to Ducketts Grove has detour signs at both ends. I did ignore one :D and continued regardless but was stopped by security just outside the grounds who said the road had been closed to the pubic since 8am. :( From what I could see from the road it was like a circus, the amount of vehicles/trucks there-all film crew etc. TBH I am more interested in the involvement of members of GHI.

125 guests from this booked into Mount Wolseley so can't be bad.

    Watching it now.
Love how they subtitle all the pre-recorded interviews with the locals :).
And they seem really impressed by the size of the site, but I'm sure that's for dramatic effect and to give them an excuse for when nothing happens.

Strange watching something occurring a few km down the road being broadcast via satellite to the US then back again via the internet thingy.

first time i ever knew none of us ever want to walk past the place for fear of seeing a banshee. heheh, and standing outside listening to sheep ... wtf?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1 Foxytrot1000

Hahaha. Yes, sheep bleating is truly terrifying...

WTF is up with their Irishman Barry? Coax a banshee? Give her your comb!!!

I am thinking it is not fresh crow but old dead crow and that is what she is whiffing.

Are you legit paranormal investigators not a bit peeved at this crap? I can sit on my patio at night and hear all this and it would not be a banshee since I live in Ontario Canada.

    Disappointing?

Typical....having problems getting the live feed right now - must be my O2 signal - very annoying - was looking forward to watching this all night....hmph !

When we rode in Russellstown at night, you miught hear a vixen crying, scary sound if you didn't know what it was. Horses are very sensitive to all kinds of things and would go loopy if there was anything out of the ordinary.

I wasnt really expecting anything of substance - and thats exactly what we got. I only watched bits of it as it was local - though the 'banshee' stories made me laugh. as did the idea everyone thinks its haunted and no-one ever walks by it at night etc etc. Made for American audiences. Made carlow people look like a right bunch of ejits though thanks to the 'city' councillor.

Destination Truth Season 3 episode 10 is on Syfy right now.
That aired in the US last St Patricks Day (17/3/10).
The Ducketts Grove Episode is Season 4 Episode 9 so we'll probably see that on Irish TV next year..... Great

Has anybody got a link where I can watch it online?
I can only find upto Season 4 Episode 8. I can't find Episode 9 anywhere.

terrible show this anyway to be honest. its just basically a group of people in the dark pretending to see stuff and jumping at the odd sound. id imagine the only reason they picked ducketts grove was because it would look a bit spooky in the dark

I found it funny. I liked how they say "the locals never dare to go there at night".
Me and a few friends have been there many times at night.

I wonder if that girl from Warehouse 13 is still in town...

As a fan of the history of Ducketts Grove, this show really rubbed me the wrong way.

This programme should be viewed purely as entertainment. The building and grounds are the perfect setting for a programme such as this to enhance and dramatise irish folklore. Its undoubtedly a foreboding building with lots of history and character. Theres a huge following of this show in the US so it can only do good for tourism in the area.

Being interested and openminded about the paranormal I am however a little disappointed to see Barry from GHI involved as I have enjoyed his contribution to Ghosthunters (TAPS) on Sky LivingIT in the past, and his overdramatisation in this live event has made him less plausible in my view.
