    Hi,
Do Vodafone sell a Samsung Galaxy S with the Android v 2.3 o/s?

Can a current Vodafone Samsung on 2.1 or 2.2 be easily upgraded by the user? I read somewhere that that is not the case.

Sorry if these are basic questions. Still getting the hang of these things...

from the latest i've read Samsung want to charge the networks for the 2.3 upgrade for current galaxy handsets. the Networks aren't exactly playing ball so who knows what could happen.

Haven't got source, but Samsung charging was a malicious rumour with no basis. Samsung will not be charging for OS upgrades since they don't make the OS, just a (pretty crap) front end. charging would probably be against their ToS with google, though that is just speculation. google wouldnt want Samsung making money from something google made.

Google have no intentions yet to charge people for the Android upgrades.

Samsung could because the have to make it work with their handset and software, they couldn't charge ordinary man in the street but they could charge the networks as the phones were shipped with 2.1, i'm sure after 2.2 Samsung would be entitled to charge if they felt like it.
Look at Sony and the experia, 2.1 and that's it.

I got my Galaxy S 2 weeks ago and it has 2.2 installed, haven't seen 2.3 available yet.

The only 2.3 handset ive used with 2.3 is the Nexus S, also made by samsung. Its now available on the Galaxy S just yet, but I cant see them charging for it to be honest. Id say its just a matter of time.

Wait, did you have to upgrade yourself or was 2.2 pre-installed? This could indicate a new batch from the factory and some troubles might be fixed like GPS.

Of course this could be somethng that the networks do. I'm not sure how it works.

No upgrade required-straight out of the box. Happy enough with it so far, although haven't had another smartphone to compare it to.

Though it'll probably void your warranty, I can heartly recommend Darkys Mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091
