Me and my boyfriend (both 24) are going to thailand for a month in July. As neither of us have been there, I was wondering if anyone could suggest a place for us. I would like to do 2 weeks somewhere and the last 2 somewhere else. Where could we go that could give us fun, but also relaxing and somewhere that is generally a bit special and full of things to do. ?

Any help or stories of peoples times in Thailand would be great :)

4 weeks is a good bit of time,I`d move around a bit more than just two places.

Koh Phanang (Spelling) is a nice island beside Ko Sumui, the full moon partys are there and theres some nice beeches and nightlife, Koh Tai is a nice spot to stay near enough the action and I`ve stayed at the Blue Lotus which is a really nice and cheap spot.
Koh Sumui is just a boat ride away and supposed to be beautifull also.

The islands on the opposite side are nice too, Phi Phi is really beautifull and you can visit where the beech was filmed.

Railey beech was one of the best beechs I`ve been on in the world, theres rock climbing too and this is in the Krabi province - very small island with no real roads and not a lot to do but chill, a good few rastas and all their wares!!
    nice few hotels and bars.

I`m not that active so I prefer to chill and go on the lash so I have`nt done many activites while in Thailand but theres diving, rockclimbing etc everywhere including yoga retreats.

Internal flights are cheap with Air Asia and I did all these place in about two and a half weeks or so.

I enjoyed a night or two in Bangkok as well.

Just back from Thailand, and you really need to do your homework to get what you want. There are some unbelievably bad and unbelievably fantastic places. Much will depend on your preferences. Accomodation, activities and restaurants depends on what you ar prepared to accept, eg you can sleep like a fly, eat like a fly and live like a fly and spend nothing.

If you like loud, brash, macho macho nighlife and all that goes with it, you'll get plenty of it in Bangkok, Koh Somui etc. Forget the movie Phi Phi is a tourist trashpoint and I'd recommend you avoid. Many areas are catering for backpackers and the bar is low.

Probably one of the nicest places I've ever visited is Koh Yao Noi, a beautiful island, remarkably calm and beautiful, mid way between Krabi and Phuket and a great location to plan island visits, rock climbing, snorkelling etc etc. It is a Muslim island, so some (alcohol, dress code) restrictions apply, but don't let that put you off, the locals are remarkably polite and friendly. Nearby Koh Yah Yai has an amazing beach (Koh Long) but otherwise little tourism features. Lots of budget accomodation available but if you want an out of this world experience then I'd recommend Niramaya. Six Senses and Paradise are also other upmarket alterantives. At the budget end Suntisook and Namtuk are good (tip book cabin with AC).

On Koh Samui, Resthotel is a super hotel away from the 'noisey end' and not too expensive.

Bangkok although fantastic shopping centres eg Siam Paragon and MBK is a dirty, noisy and sad city which has been destroyed by sleaze. 2 nights is more than enough to see some of the remarkable sights including the Temples (Golden Buddha, Reclining Buddha etc) and the Grand Palace.

Street stalls selling knock off brands are no real fun, expensive and a 'big con'.
