So whos up for the Biking Blitz? There are tones of great prizes up for grabs- €650 worth of Green Oil goodies and a Trek 4300 mountain bike worth €680!

Any bets on the fastest one-full-lap time of Ballinastoe? I've heard rumours of sub 50mins...

How would a roadie with more speed than skills get on at something like this? I'm not bad on the hills but still a p*ssy when it comes to single track.

Is it a mass start race or more like a time trial?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,396 ✭✭✭✭Timmaay

You should have no problem with this if you've do a good bit on the roadbike, single track isn't that bad, just man up and go for it!!

I don't know if its timetrial or mass start but would assume mass start in whatever group your in, Niall you able to answer this for us?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 Niall Davis

It's a mass start event, so it will be a bit of criac. The first steep hill will be packed with spectators and should sort the placings before the singletrack.

If you need to improve your skills then take a lesson, same price as a trip to A&E, which would you rather pay for! ; )

Great to see local shops and sponsors being so generous in supporting these events especially when times are tough for business.

Some great prizes lined up, over €3000 worth!

Green Oil- lube, degreaser, bike brushes, bike washer plus lost more goodies.

Columbia Sportwear are supplying some backpacks (which don't hit you in the back of the head when your riding steep stuff or jumping!)

Trek Ireland- have given us a Trek 4300 mountain bike- what the hell! How good is that.

The Cycle Inn, Rothar and MBW are providing the youth prizes and free bike checks on the morning of each race.

There will also be medals for podium finishers too

Thanks so much. This is going to be deadly!

So once you're on the singletrack the placing is in a sense decided until you get back onto a fire road? How does it work if someone is holding up another rider on the singletrack - tough sh*t?

Where could I get skills lessons?

Surely a good hard crash would teach me a lesson or two :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 Niall Davis

Entries for the Wicklow Blitz that is!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 863 ✭✭✭Lawdie

Hi Niall, is the laps the same for under 12 girls? Might have one entering! Do they start at the same time?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 Niall Davis

Due to popular demand there will be and Under 8 and Under 10 race at 10am for the Wicklow Blitz. No pushing kids up hill parents!!!

No need to pre register U8 and U10 riders. U12, U14, U16 still start at 10.30

Entries close this Friday at 8pm and spaces are limited so don't leave it too late and miss out.

    Niall, whats the Kids loop?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 Niall Davis

Sorry never actually answered your question. Kids loops vary with age cat, Under 12 is first right from the carpark, up the climb, past the barrier and back into the descent to carpark, 3-4 times depending on conditions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭markdrayton

Will entries be open on the line?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 Niall Davis

You gotta pre enter here, it closes at 8pm on Friday!

Baggy shorts do two half laps (average 1hr) while Super Pro will do one full lap followed by a half lap (average 2hr).

PS: anyone can enter the Super Pro!

Great event despite the weather, huge turnout too...

The que's when everyone hit the singletrack was a nice rest after the climbs! :D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,396 ✭✭✭✭Timmaay

Yeh savage event! The weather didn't dampen the atmosphere at all. I had an interesting race, saddle came f**king loose and I had no allen keys with me (schoolboy mistake!!), thankfully it lasted the whole race! The 2nd small lap was tough, but thank god it was short! That was my 1st mtb race and I am in bits now but looking forward to another 1 already!

Ah that was a class moment all right,as I came into the finish with a Cycle Inn rider on my tail I heard voices from the crowd ''Cycle Inn are better than Thinkbike''(was that you Niall ?) so I burnt the last bit of gas I had up the finishing straight and as the guy from Cycle Inn passed me ,with relative ease it has to be said, to go out for his 2nd lap he calmly states that we were not actually in the same race.... EXCELLENT :)

Youth: laps to be decided on the Saturday but expect good fun racing.

(See map for each loop) http://www.coillteoutdoors.ie/?id=53&rec_site=114

Looking good for the Galway Blitz!

We have casual mountain bike spins in Rosscathal woods on Saturday day time, along with a giant airbag with a launch ramp to try your first back flip or 360! There will be food and music running into the night with stadium flood lights so the biking can continue.

Sunday sees the Galway Blitz kick off at 10am for the youth races and 12noon for the Seniors. Its two full laps for the Super Pro's and one Lap for the Baggy Shorts! Once again there will be lots of top prizes up for grabs from Green Oil, Trek, Columbia, Moycullen Bike Works.

    See you there
