They didn't set a RRP for the 3DS in Europe.
Most likely because they were afraid we'd see the price difference and say "Hang on Nintendo...".
It opens the doors to gouging...

By the way, thehut is charging 261.xx with some experience thing. Don't remember if delivery is free to ireland.

Expect a mark up on release day when they do set a price. The Wii had a RRP of 250 on release. The only place in ireland that didn't sell the wii at 270 and actually sold it at 250 was argos. Eventually 270 became the RRP.

    They did what?
Nintendo set a Trade Price, not a RRP.
Trade Prices are invisible to ordinary consumers, unless they work in gamestop etc.
It'd be nice if someone could give us that price.

It does seem as though 270 will be the selling price here, ridiculously.

I've just pre-ordered mine in Game! €10 deposit pay the rest onto a Game giftcard over the next two months.
If ya cant afford it right now, just get it when you can, its not going to change by the summer/xmas/2012, except maybe the price or bundles I'd say.

What really sucks though is that the guy in game said games will cost around €50 each!

    Roll on a R4i 3ds card!

I'm going to import a us one like i did with the dsi.
    Cheaper Everything from the US.
Oh wow, look we got 2 days to spend 100 euro more than the Americans do, and our games will either come out 1 day earlier once in a blue moon, or be 8 months late to change armor into armour, color into colour etc.

They look like 40 euro each from what I've seen.

One thing that is often forgetten is that $250 is before sales tax and €270 is after VAT so we're €223 vs $250 (€190) so it's still bad but not as bad in terms of the price Nintendo set, a lot is due to our high VAT.

€269.99 in Smyths, how the f*"k do Nintendo expect people in Ireland to pay so much, at this rate the games will be €80 each, although Smyths do have Cats and Dogs listed at €45. I will have to sell a kidney, just hope my epilepsy stays dormant.

I asked my brother to check the price in GAME for me,for a laugh mainly.I've decided i'm not buying it at the ridiculous price.I read on Gamesradar that the 3DS Consoles are bought by the Shops for £173 but are being sold for £230.

Weren't most DS games 45/50 at launch...or am i remembering wrong?

I fully expect 3ds games to be in line with current ds prices tbh.

This sounds good. Where is best to get it from? What about customs?

target.com and have a few friends in america.
Only problem with the 3ds might be box size. I looks pretty big in comparison with dsi's box.

If its any good to anyone,

Pre orders being taken at shopto for £200 sterling, just over 232 euro. Not sure if you can pay in sterling, because if you switch currency to euro it goes up to 246 euro!

    http://www.shopto.net/page.php?page=search&categ=&platform=&banner=nintendo%203ds%20home&codarts=3DSHW02%203DSHW01%20&layout=0&utm_source=Newsletter%2B358&utm_medium=E-mail&utm_campaign=Nintendo%2B3DS%2Bconsole

Or Asda have it to pre-order for £202 sterling with the £15 off from the following link: (I think this is probably the best bet as postage is only 99p

    http://www.asda-entertainment.co.uk/games/inspiration/3ds-asda.list

Hopefully they both deliver to Ireland.

    i pre-ordered off asda yesterday. 270 euro with ssf4.
    Best deal i guess.

with shopto, you have to pay in euro, and pay 29 pounds for tnt delivery. Works out just under 270 without a game. :(

gamegears have it for 226 euro, but i think they finished taking preorders.
Never put it in my basket, so don't know the delivery rate.

Jaysus €270 for system & SSF4!!!! thats prob the best deal in europe!
Very cheap! In real world money that would be €310 or €320 depending on price of the game excluding postage!

When you click on the 3DS it states "* Please note this item cannot be shipped outside the UK". I wonder will this be a problem, as otherwise it's a very good deal.

Yeah, I hope they gimme. :s

Didn't notice this, but amazon are now charging £202 for pre-orders.
(Order Total: £203.68 with irish 1% extra vat)

Seems gamegears and the 173 trade price outage made some retailers drop their price.

Ah, I dont mind the high hardware price, as I will get my money back and own back on Ninty with free games on a R4 card! Like I have with the DS.:)

Fair price policy = no piracy!

If they charged 20 euro a game, in 10 years you'll want them to charge 10, in 10 more years you'll want them to charge 5...
30-40 is fair for a good game, and those are the prices I've seen online.
With demo's on eshop we should be better informed on that good game point.

Also you know the console is made and sold by Nintendo but the games aren't all made by them right? This is probably why Cing went bankrupt, people willing to play but not pay.

Tbh, I'm not surprised with the price. I expected I wouldn't be getting it any time soon.. :(
Probably after christmas... if there's any special offers around...

I'd just like to point out that the real reason Nintendo never set an RRP is because it's illegal now to announce RRP's at events like the conference in Amsterdam. I was at the conference and one of the bigwigs told me, and some others, this personally.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,614 ✭✭✭Nollog

    On consumer electronics it's illegal.
Which is stupid to the highest degree, since consumers have no basis for comparison.
    It's Recommended, not enforced.
Whoever thought it would be a good idea to ban it is a moron, price-fixing will remain behind the scenes regardless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 776 ✭✭✭Jafin

I couldn't agree more, I think it's completely ridiculous that I have to pay €270 to get it day one. I curse myself for being too much of a Nintendo fan.

Pretty sure that was just games made by Nintendo. Hell, SM64DS is still at least 35 euro.

€260 in Smyths if you pre-book with a €10 deposit. In other words, pre-book for €10 and pay €250 on the day. Also the trade ins are:

Trade in DSi XL and get 3DS for €140
Trade in DSi and get 3DS for €175
